GG is doing the best he can with what we’ve got. If you’d told me at the end of last season we’d have clinched a playoff berth with games still in hand I’d have said you’re dreaming. We’re blessed, playing good hockey and might even make a deep run but the HUGE upside is the kids get a taste of the bright lights and pressure of playoffs NOW versus 2-3 years. Naysayers be damned.

I've watched this team since 2005. He's the best coach the team has ever had. That's my opinion. So far I haven't seen any flaws in his coaching that I've quickly seen from the others. He's communicating with his players, he sets boundaries, he brings confidence to his players. And his ego is in check.

Still, he's not afraid to mix lines and pairings up during the season. He has informed his players it isn't a punishment to move around, but that he's trying to fine tune the car. I really like this coach.

I think Torts was pretty good too - he got a lot out of a really good goalie and a lunchpail hockey team. That being said, Gallant should win the Adams this year.

Gallant played Jarred Tinordi seven times this season. I'd fire him.
There are far worse examples of critical flaws in a coach than that. At least he gave Tinordi an honest chance to adapt. That's fair I think if he would be playing games anyway. Gallant has made wrong decisions, none of them critical and many of his decisions have been working just fine.

Sure, the team looked pressured 5 on 5. Well, they're not anymore. Two offensive lines and two defensive lines to help out Shestyerkin. I won't care how many points defensive lines create as long as they help out the goalie.

Why? Because the defense is playing a very modern, active defense, always contributing to the attack and the defense. Active defensemen. They're not afraid to cycle the attack and jump into the offensive zone. It's impressive really. Except for the bottom pairing, that needs work.

Should win coach of the year, there's always things i disagree with with him but the results speak for themselves. Maybe Gallant was playing 3d chess all year by putting Hunt in the top 6 and constantly putting McKegg in the lineup so that Drury would eventually fill those holes.

Kinda random, but I was thinking about all the TMM penalties we took the past two seasons compared to the zero we've had this season. Hardly a coincidence imo.

We've had a quite a few tmm penalties, not sure where you got that idea.

Torts was good at getting more from less and less from more. He really had no idea how to treat star players and basically chased Gaborik out of town, and did the same to players on other teams as he went. I think he was the perfect coach for the time, I'd never want him near this team.

If I can't remember them, it certainly wasn't quite a few. How many do you think they took and how long ago? Serious question.

Id say 3 or 4? I believe Quinn and Ruff had 7, it looks like it follows ruff around because hes still doing it. It really doesn't change much, Cooper had one of the higher amount of TMM penalities last year and just from watching the Leafs they seem to have one a week it seems

Yeah, I said it was just a random observation that they are down from the last few seasons since GG. I really doubt it was 3 or 4 but I don't see that tracked anywhere so it's whatever.

THAT really bothered me. And then a month or two after he canned Gaborik, Torts got fired. If only they could have stalled the trigger finger of trade. Ugh!!

It’s a results oriented business and you can’t argue with where we are right now. He got this club to believe and compete, even getting them to win games where they played like garbage. He did so with a pre-TDL top heavy team and some goal tending luck.

And now post-TDL we are seeing him do it with more authority (most nights at least) having a better balanced roster at his disposal.

The only thing lacking is the development of Chytil, and to a lesser extent, Laf and Kakko. I just think he wants to win games and it’s hard to move Vatrano and Copp considering the way those lines are rolling right now. I just can’t blame him for their lack of production. Since the team is so stacked up top, it’s just going to be a very slow burn with Laf and Kakko. When injuries inevitably happen, they’ll get their opportunities to step up in the future.

I've been very annoyed with GG, particularly moving Kakko and Laf from the top 6 as they were starting to gel. Seeing this group post TDL, leave them where they are. It is what it is. The lines are at their best right now. That doesn't excuse some of the GG decision making earlier like when he moved Kakko off line 2 cause he was "bored". But can't complain with almost all of his current decision making. He even realized he was wrong to move Schneider out of the lineup. Didn't think that was possible.

Not that I disagree, but Gaborik was a major factor in us not winning a cup in '14---because he won it instead.

And maybe without Brassard we don't get there. By 2014 I think Brassard was the more useful player. Gaborik was a Frank Vatrano type (I feel like I saw this comparison somewhere) whereas Brassard is closer to an Andrew Copp.

Could we not have gotten Brassard with other pieces? I think so.

Gallant has a case for the Jack Adams this year, but I genuinely don't see any way he wins it with the jobs Andrew Brunette and Darryl Sutter have done this year.
