Some of our top dogs looked better under Quinn, our D seems worse. We fans focus a lot on the coach, but it’s bad, for me personally, when I‘m left wanting for the Torts days. At least the ice was tilted with so so talent and we fore checked pretty well.

I just don’t understand his thought process

Tonight he doesn’t use his timeout when we are clearly losing a foothold on the game

Then he benches laf because why the f*** not

Then in the postgame he states he wanted to run three lines…but he took the only solid RW that played all game and sat him

Yea he avoided the Laf issue post game with a non answer that makes no sense, knowing no one on the beat would follow up.

So easy to rag doll youth, they know the culture to shut up and play in the NHL. Remember Mika having that back and forth with GG after the last second Lindgren goal to beat Buffalo? Coaches know anyone under 25 isn’t going to do that and give them shit for dumb roster moves involving them or ruining the locker room vibe by being visibly upset. Laf needs to pull a VK and call GG on his yanking, but not his style, good Canadian boy who will put his head down and work harder with no results due to shit line mates, destroying what confidence had started to build. I liked GG but f*** off man, f*** OFF. At least Quinn gave an answer that explained what happened, Turk just spewed nonsense and got away with it.

-2GD at 5v5. Last year under David Quinn, the worst coach of all time, the Rangers were +10. Make of it what you will.
This Rangers team would be in the exact same place this year with Quinn + Igor's play. Honestly, maybe even better off at least they could score goals 5v5.

Let's stop comparing Gallant to Quinn. Quinn had fancy +/- but was born loser. He couldn't get the team to win tight games and win when it counted. At least Gallant has got the team to play some balls to the wall games. Remember how the Rangers beat the Flyers 9-0 in one game, then 8-3 in another, but still managed to be just about .500 against the Flyers last year? That was Quinn hockey in a nutshell. Losing, flashy garbage.

Gallant is constantly out of breath in the postgame. Struggling for his next breathe. Chest and nose at battle for air. He may want to have that checked out…

I was always wanted Gallant but i was also not blaming Quinn for last season. We had a lot of obstacles in the way of success, Shesterkin was hurt covid, Panarin got Russian'd, on and on and on. Not to mention the roster was one of th youngest in the league and largely filled with holes. If Quinn was at the helm this year i dont believe the results would be much different imo, most of our wins have relied on Shesterkin being a .940 goalie and Kreider being a 40 goal scorer.

I think in the long run Turk is going to be great for us. What I think needs to happen is to have guys REALLY buy into the system. Hell, even Panarin looks better when he's playing more physically. Not when he skates around like f***ing Shoresy. I still say he's an upgrade over Quinn, though the benching of Laffy last night made no sense. I know he's not putting up a ton of points, but god damn does that kid work.

I think GG is an excellent coach.
I think the team is motivated under him. I think they play hard for him. They also win close games which is a good sign.

It's hard not to watch this team though and say his treatment of Laf has been odd at best. Guy is on a 4 point streak. Hustled his way to an assist on the first goal. Saved 2 goals by hustling back into the play and lifting sticks. Then was punished in the 3rd. Who on the team was having a better game than him through the first 2 periods?

Playing Nemeth and Braun together was obviously a mistake. I'll give GG a one game cushion before he gets blame. But if that pair comes out against Pitt and Schneider is sitting again, this is more of the same stupidity. Being young doesn't mean bad. being old doesn't mean good.

Bump for more stupidity. Laf playing well? Drop to line 4. Schneider playing well? Healthy scratch.

"But we are improved! We are a playoff team!" That makes it worse. Gonna be hard to make noise as is. With dumb decisions, it's impossible.
Eh Schneider wasnt playing well. His play dropped off. Sitting a game or two isnt the worst thing for him.

Laf being demoted is baffling

I think GG is an excellent coach.
Unfortunately he has his glaring flaws like most roundabout coaches - which is the reason why they were sacked by another team in the first place, which extends the mythological "shelf life". Gallant is not a solution, he's a stop gap. He's not smart enough to be the perfect coach. Again I would advice NYR to search in Europe, there are tremendous coaches there who have done more with less.

I will give him more time to show his 5 on 5 game isn't a joke systematically and that this is just a poor misunderstanding, or that this team is just traditionally THAT reliant on fantastic goaltending again. Back to square one for eternity. Great PP, ok. Otherwise his strategy has at least two fatal flaws that need to be corrected, which he won't, because... he's that age and cannot readjust core principles in his mind anymore. He could with the right mindset, but... 95% of all people are like that.

Too harsh? Not at all, he can hold for a while, but he's still just a stopgap instead of a finding a more complete coach. If I would say something positive, he's an above average NHL coach (if that holds any merit, which I think doesn't) and that I really like his style, philosophy and personality. So yes, I like him, he's just not good enough.

But the thing that irks me, the thing that tells me "Ok, we're not really winning the cup this year, but we're working to." So, why does he treat the younger players like he does? Benching Laf last game was ridiculous, what the hell is the deal? He's supposed to show wisdom as an old man there and he didn't. f*** development, right? Just push the prospects down at "big" moments.

Hence: A stopgap that I liked. But, I liked Renney and Torts too, good coaches in their own ways. Not Vigneault though, he was a smug, arrogant, prideful, incompetent douchebag.

First year, new coach, huge market. We look great, whatever he did as a coach up to this point, we are better off rn as a team.

He sure af didn't make it worse. Bottom d-pair is still a weakness, the pups in the top-6 need time to find their game, but the vets are showing up more than ever it feel like.

I rarely comment coaching because unless you coach yourself, hockey specifically in this case, the f*** do you know? Tf does anybody here know about being coach in the NHL, the tactics, the poker face and game that goes along with it?

We're not off worse and much of the criticism is overblown and coming from cluelessness imo

Quinn was definitely underrated, but IDK. Some players are playing better, others are playing worse:

Improved:

Trouba
Kreider
Miller
Laf
Kakko

Worse:
Lindgren
Panarin
Fox
Strome

Generally even:

Zibanejad
Chytil
Gauthier
Hajek
Rooney
McKegg

I do, however, think the amount that the "improved" group has impacted the team in a positive way has outweighed the "worse" group's impact. Just look at Kreider, Trouba, and Miller. Fox, Panarin, Strome, Lindgren, just aren't having "best in class" years but are still having a positive impact on the team for the most part. Especially Fox and Panarin.

Goaltending is far better which really has nothing to do GG. But the powerplay is also better and the hottest the team has ever been which definitely is to GG's credit. That combo is winning them most of their games as we all know.

It feels like a wash. Definitely, the addition of players like Goodrow and now the ones acquired on the TDL will have an impact too.

I really just feel like DQ was a bit underrated and GG is a bit overrated. But yea, they'd honestly likely be in the same place under either coach.
