IDK, I feel like he has like 2/3rds of a forward corps. A good top six, and then a third line that, depending on who is there on a given night, is made up of chronically underperforming guys, guys that really belong on a fourth line, and then guys that shouldn't even be in the NHL. Which then makes it tough when the top six struggles, because whoever you put there is inevitably not remotely qualified to be there.

IIRC the Panarin-Strome-Kakko line had good 5v5 numbers before Kakko got hurt, and it feels like the Kreider-Zibanejad-Lafreniere line is usually pretty solid. The third and fourth lines would probably be better served icing the puck every time rather than trying to play. If they had 3 guys the caliber of Goodrow, I think the team as a whole would look quite a bit better.

Also, while I like Barron, I don't think having him in the lineup would make much of a difference at this point. He's fine when he's out there but he's not a difference-maker. Having McKegg in the lineup is dumb but literally every coach out there has random players that they have inexplicable faith in. I think most of the things Gallant gets killed for, you can see in other coaches.

Ik I called him David Quinn 2.0 last night but I think thats a lil disingenuous. His personnel decisions are mind-boggling sometimes, but I do think he understands how to run a locker room and motivate players unlike Quinn.

The bottom sixers we've had the last couple of years have been a far cry from guys like Boyle, Dom Moore, Hagelin, Grabner to name a couple. Even Daniel f***ing Carcillo.

This is the guy who said on draft day that Brennan Othmann had a 3% chance of becoming an NHLer and had him ranked 111th on his board because of his flawed model that VERY cleary struggled with Othmann playing in the Swiss league during the pandemic.

Idiots like this guy should realize if your model is spitting out info like this which deviates so drastically from consensus opinion, maybe you should look at your model instead of assuming your model is PERFECT and everyone else is stupid and wrong. Dude is a clown. Bob McKenzie, who bases his list on actual intel from NHL GMs, had Othmann ranked 16th but Patrick f***ing Bacon knew better. His model is clearly beyond reproach, I mean look at the shitty season Othmann is having! Still hasn't walked back that moronic take either.

Gallant's signature move is calling a 3rd period timeout to rest PP1 when they are tied or down a goal. It has worked an impressive amount this year. This dude knows how to play to his teams strengths

I’ll start off by saying I like Turk as a person. He doesn’t piss me off like balloon boy did.

With that said, the 5v5 and lack of offensive zone play is disturbing. I don’t know how much of it is an indictment on him though. A cohesive plan in the offensive zone seems to be lacking. When it’s not off the rush, it’s pointless cycling around the corners until a bad pass or shot is made.

The players are allergic to going to the center of the ice, where statistically, is the best chance of scoring. The Boy Scouts club (Strome, Panarin, Zib) are big culprits in this. Going for the pretty pass.

It’s like this team doesn’t know or want to know how to play that way. I’m if I’m being honest, as long as that’s the case, this team will be a good regular season team but will lose fast in the playoffs. Speed and going to the net is sorely needed. So I think at this juncture, it’s more on the personal than on Turk.

ps. I also don’t know what he thinks is a problem for Barron.

Gallant is a better coach than Quinn; but that is sort of like saying Helen Keller was a better tennis player than Stephen Hawking.

I feel like he has this team buying into the system and playing more competitively on a nightly basis, but its at the expense of more scoring. Funny enough, he is getting some things that Quinn wanted from the team but wasnt getting consistently.

Obviously Igor is playing a huge role in the W/L column - but this team is in more games and comes back more often, despite Igor at times. So I think he's done a very good job (along with Kelly), and the overall commitment he's seen regarding special team panning has also made an impact.

So all-in-all he should receive some nods, but its obvious he wont get it. Anyone who doesn't vote for him is pretty much admitting that Igor should win the Vezina and/or Hart and should be ridiculed incessantly if they dont vote for him in either of those categories

You touched on a good point RE Kelly. His staff is very good and the special teams results are there to prove it.

Bump for more stupidity. Laf playing well? Drop to line 4. Schneider playing well? Healthy scratch.

"But we are improved! We are a playoff team!" That makes it worse. Gonna be hard to make noise as is. With dumb decisions, it's impossible.

He’s the same thing as every other coach. Everyone wanted him in the off-season because all they looked at were Vegas and Florida were good and Barkov/Huberdeau became good.

Player usage outside the PP is terrible. Overplays bad players. Benches guys for no reason. Is particularly rude to the media.
