Top 3 in 5v5 TOI for forwards was Laf/Mika/Kreider. That's good.

The next 3 were...Hunt (7 seconds below Kreider)/Panarin/Rooney. That's utterly disgusting.

GG should probably realize his love affair with guys like Hunt and McKegg aren’t gonna result in much playoff success and that his job depends on guys like Chytil, Barron, and maybe Kravtsov if he ever comes back, getting it going.

It seems like every coach falls in love with one or two plugs that play “the right way” (i.e. low-event hockey). Hunt could at least be a good bottom six player. McKegg has no business on an NHL roster.

Gallant's love for McKegg might be deeper than Quinn's for Blackwell.

we're rocking a single top6 FW line (and even that's makeshift) for most of the season.
Not having McKeggs and Hunts won't fix that. Doesn't mean that explicitly choosing Gregggory over Chytil isn't dumbfounding tho.

Don’t know how anyone can hate him. He’s overachieved with this group up until this point.
It’s obvious the players like him, from a motivational standpoint at least.
He’s at least partially responsible for the culture shift..
In that regard, I’d say he’s a players coach.
However, he’s not perfect. Some of his line up decisions are puzzling to say the least.
But all and all, I don’t know how anyone that’s a NYR fan can give him a failing grade.
We have way more of a pulse/compete level as opposed to last season. The players stick up for one another and 99% of the time, they never roll over, or just give up and mail it in like we saw under Quinn last season.
The team isn’t taking too many men penalties every 2nd/3rd game...
And except for 1-2 guys, our young players have grown, and our vets bust their asses.
As far as head coaches go, we could have done a lot worse tbh.

At this point, why not try Morgan Barron with Panarin and Strome. Barron at center since we all been told he is good at faceoffs, plays center in Hartford but yet plays wing with NYR, that has to stop. He tried Hunt, Goodrow and Reaves so far. Maybe it would click.

Panarin, Barron Strome
Kreider, Mika, Lafy
Gauthier Goodrow Chytil
Hunt Rooney Reaves

McKegg Healthy Scratch

I mentioned this before too but I had Barron on the RW on that line where he can slide in to take draws and then just focus on winning puck battles and getting open to use his shot which is maybe his best asset, I like Hunt as a bottom 6 guy but he’s not moving the needle on that line so why not try something new

LOL, he is definitely not an idiot like I've seen suggested.

I don't like his lineup choices and some of his deployments but that is true for EVERY coach we've had in my lifetime as is true for almost every coach in the NHL, so. You know.

We don't have a super team with 18 guys that are instant and undeniable regulars. If we had a few better players I don't think anyone is throwing the "idiot" label around with regards to Turk.

McKegg is a better checking forward than Chytil. Chytil is, presumably, a better scoring forward than McKegg. Chytil hasn't been scoring though, so what's the coach to do?

Personally, I'd put Chytil up with Panarin and Strome, see if they can all get each other going. Or put Goodrow up there. Hell, even try Gauthier at this point. Hunt isn't getting it done. Right type of player, but he doesn't have enough offense in his game.

Ultimately, we have to get rid of Strome. Him and Panarin work well against teams that play loose, but against quicker, more aggressive teams, neither is going to win a lot of board battles. We can't depend on 1 player on that line to dig the puck out and get it to them. That line can't sustain a forecheck, so they often try to create off the rush and end up forcing passes and turning it over.

I like McKegg and what he brings. I like GG too. But c'mon, Panarin and Strome aren't do shitall with Hunt or Goodrow on their line for some time, and they actually looked pretty good when Chytil was on the line before GG had to move Chytil back to C. Sitting Chytil in favor of McKegg is just dumb, no other way to call it.

Coaches assume a bad game is a one off, the good games are the real deal. So we performed 'well' against Washington, lines are AWESOME! Perform poorly against Pitt with the same lines and that's just seen as a one off. I hate how NHL coaches think sometimes.

We played well against Pittsburgh, just didn't score. We played poorly against Vancouver, so I expect some changes.

How does this thread not get bumped more? Guess Igor covers the warts. Reeves for Laf is laughable. Rooney over Laf in an OT was pathetic. Using Laf as your guy to consistently send a message is embarrassing.

He took Kakko off the Panarin line when that was the only good line we had going. Now he takes Laf off the Mika line when that has been our only line. Guy hates success I guess. This is making me angrier than Georgiev's normal pathetic effort.

He's a terrific coach. Glad to have him.
I think he's terrific in managing players.

I don't know what he's trying to implement 5v5 tbh. That's not a sign of a terrific coach. He's terrific in certain aspects though

Our TEAM has an I in it . That is not going to work out well for somebody at some point . Panarin will have to buy in if we are to have any playoff luck. That blast at practice today was more for Panarin then anything else . At this stage he cannot single him out as he then most likely loses him altogether . He has a huge job ahead trying to get him to buy into a team approach ....on his third team now and a NM DEAL . It will be tough sledding . That's the problem with flaky superstars....coach killers .
