Does anyone feel like our style is basically if you took the best parts of Torts and the best parts of Quinn, this is the style you'll get? We still do a lot of east to west but play with a lot more sandpaper.
Leave Torts and Quinn out of it!

He also got fired from Vegas in what can only be described as a boneheaded decision. The next time anyone considers using an appeal to authority argument to defend an NHL front office decision ("well he's an NHL GM and you're not so he must be right!") just remember this man sat home unemployed for a year and a half in a league where retreads and bumpkins like Vignault, Travis Green and David Quinn were making millions.
"Gallant is simply the personification of Old School Hockey"
Only difference is Tampa literally embodied this, with their bottom-six and backend's size. The Rangers now aren't the Rangers of 2012 where they are starless and rely solely on Lundqvist. What old Rangers teams under Torts had a Panarin, Fox, Zibanejad? None."Gallant is simply the personification of Old School Hockey"
And that's the concern acc to some.
The amazing thing is how little 1 0n 1 interaction coaches have with players.
It is, and at this level it isnt needed. The players are über skilled and got to the NHL level for a reason. They've risen through the ranks and have had all different types of taskmasters as coaches throughout their career. Unless they are super young and those are the ones receiving some more guidance.
I think this was the problem with Quinn all along. He has a shelf life with players. He wants to be too close. He tried to micromanage everything and everyone. There's only so much of that a player can take, and doubly so for the type of alpha personalities that have the confidence in themselves to reach such a high level of play.
It worked for when they needed it since they had such a young team and we shouldn't discount the work he did here (as evident through of Zib's remarks), but this was the right move at the right time bringing in Gallant.
Hated seeing JD go (a personal fave) and thought we wouldnt be where we are now w/o some of Gorton's brilliance and LUCK......but, Dolan didnt get to be where HE IS by NOT being able to evaluate his "people" properly. (Prob a not so popular hot take). He also got fired from Vegas in what can only be described as a boneheaded decision.
Eh… Dolan ruined the Knicks and they’ve been a joke for 20 years now.Hated seeing JD go (a personal fave) and thought we wouldnt be where we are now w/o some of Gorton's brilliance and LUCK......but, Dolan didnt get to be where HE IS by NOT being able to evaluate his "people" properly. But, if that is what it took.......so be it. Love Gallant and what he brings (honesty, a straight up dude) loved that clip of his from yesteryear......I remember him playing w/Detroit, btw.
Can't see HOW Vegas was stupid enough to let him go, and don't blame him one bit for soaking every last cent from Vegas to do NOTHING as per his contract. He OBVIOUSLY felt they OWED him that, and did him very WRONG. Kudos Turk!
for me, I have nothing vested in the KNICKERBOCKERS anymore. Gave up on them and the NBA a long time ago. therefore, irrelevant to me. as long as he hires the RIGHT people for our Rangers and the ship is running smoothly, he's in good graces with me. Hope he sees my post, maybe he will kick me a few bucks. lmao.Eh… Dolan ruined the Knicks and they’ve been a joke for 20 years now.
He gets no benefit of the doubt despite the past decade plus of mostly good (sometimes great) Rangers hockey. Without Lundqvist emerging as he did, who knows how bad this team could have been during that time too. He propped up the franchise significantly.

I agree and not just to win the point but to get him the experience and who knows, if he puts one in his confidence goes thru the roof..Rooney in OT over Laf who just was flying all over the ice. It's one of his worst decisions of the season for a guy that has started Nemeth, McKegg and Tinordi on purpose.
Rooney in OT is obviously egregious, but that could have just been for faceoff purposes and he never made the change.
The worse thing that needs to be corrected IMMEDIATELY is consistently starting the fourth line after TV timeouts and giving them this many offensive zone starts.
Okay I'm fine with that.Just to point something out- Dolan got to where he was by winning the birth lottery. He’s literally been a horrific evaluator of “people” for his entire time as owner of both the knicks and Rangers. It’s much more likely that Sather and Drury knew the team was going no where with Quinn and that Gallant was far and away the best option available.
Gallant is a terrific coach in every sense of the word. Fair to his players, shows he believes in them but holds them to a standard and supports them when needed. He’s a guy I’d love to play for!
