a little bit worried with the lack of news involving that last forward spot. teams have been eliminated for 2-3 days now and we haven't heard anything yet. we need another top 6 forward badly and not hearing anything is really starting to worry me especially considering how quickly we heard about Tyler Johnson, Abdelkader, and DeKeyser once they got bounced.

Tommy Wingels is the last forward. David Leggio is the last goalie.

I guess that means Dubinsky, Stastny, Atkinson, Nieto, etc. all declined.

Nieto would've been a better add, but i don't blame him for declining. his mother is very sick and was undergoing cancer treatments as recently as right before the playoffs started.

One of my random coffee break hobbies every year is fantasy-CapGeeking the Canada and USA WC rosters to see if they ever compare to NHL team payrolls. Here's the USA one - http://www.capgeek.com/fantasy-calculator/roster/3900

Kevin Hayes, Peter Mueller, Tim Stapleton and Connor Hellebuyck weren't found. I put two people with the same last names as Mueller and Hayes just as placeholders to represent ~league minimum salaries for the extra bodies. Mueller and Stapleton both made 1,750,000 and 525,000 in their last NHL contracts respectively, and if you assume league minimum for Kevin Hayes and Hellebuyck (???) as taken by the two warm bodies, you can add Mueller and Stapleton's last NHL salaries to the number published to put USA's WC team close to $35 million - so, quite below the Cap Floor as expected. Still an exciting young group to watch this year!

Here's your final roster according to USA Hockey. Can't they add people though?

I will be cheering for these guys but that offense is one of the worst overall offenses I have seen in a few years from the US. Can the defense line up as forwards too?

Not even after the group stage?

Nope.

I think people will be shocked when these guys light it up.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the forwards (or this team) do well. Hell, Switzerland's team last year did well and that wasn't exactly a star studded squad. The bigger issue is the international ice - it's a different game for most of these guys. How they adjust to that will matter more than had some other forwards wanted to play.

Either way, it'll be a fun team to watch. To follow guys like Trouba, Jones, Gaudreau, Smith, Johnson, etc. is worth it alone.

That's always a major factor. It's especially true when they bring a team full of NHL role players who have to remember what playing a more technically oriented game is like. There's always a possibility a team like this can go the route of the 2010 team who struggled to score against nearly every team they faced.

I'm very intrigued to see what kind of role the younger players get. Considering Housley is on the coaching staff and he had the experience at the 2013 WJC's with these guys I wouldn't be surprised if they give them a lot of responsibility.

I'm particularly excited to see just how Gaudreau is used. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the power play or even in a regular top 6 role.

I can see another 2010 on the horizon if these guys don't gel quickly. The offensive and goalie departments leave a lot to be desired.

I won't be and I don't think this group will have to grind it out either. Johnny Hockey will once again enjoy the open ice.

I also think the US will get a lot of offense from the blueline with Jones and Trouba. Jacob had 4 goals and 9 points in 7 games during the U20 Gold medal run.

not a problem in my eyes with Thomas in net, that is a strength compared to many years.

Timmy should do alright, even if he had a pretty horrible comeback season, but it's slim pickings after him. You'd think they'd want a bit more experience backing him up considering his age. I wonder if Anderson declined them, or they simply wanted to go with younger guys?
