WC: General Talk '14 — USA

Do they really?
Yup. The TV ratings in a number of countries (Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland) are huge in absolute terms as well, but what I was talking about was the number of people watching IHWC relative to the amount of hockey fans in a given country.

In North America people don't care about IHWC at all. The ratings in the US have been about the same as in Latvia a few times. In absolute numbers. Population of Latvia: 2 million. Population of the US - 320M.

I thought it was common knowledge around here.

I'm unsure what happened, but the 2010 team looks significantly better than this one so far...

At least this team will have some young hungry players who will be interesting to watch.

The 2010 roster

22 F Ryan Carter Anaheim Ducks 6 1 1 2 4
41 D Taylor Chorney Edmonton Oilers 6 0 0 0 2
17 F Brandon Dubinsky New York Rangers 6 3 7 10 2
71 F Nick Foligno Ottawa Senators 6 3 0 3 0
18 F TJ Galiardi Colorado Avalanche 6 0 3 3 8
97 D Matt Gilroy New York Rangers 6 3 1 4 0
6 D Andy Greene New Jersey Devils 6 0 2 2 0
2 D Matt Greene Los Angeles Kings 6 0 1 1 4
20 F Christian Hanson Toronto Maple Leafs 6 0 1 1 2
38 D Jack Hillen New York Islanders 6 0 1 1 2
3 D Jack Johnson Los Angeles Kings 6 0 3 3 4
13 F Tim Kennedy Buffalo Sabres 6 1 0 1 0
19 F Chris Kreider Boston College 6 1 1 2 0
39 D Mike Lundin Tampa Bay Lightning 6 0 1 1 0
25 F David Moss Calgary Flames 6 1 2 3 2
23 F Eric Nystrom Calgary Flames 6 0 0 0 4
21 F Kyle Okposo New York Islanders 6 1 2 3 0
74 F T. J. Oshie St. Louis Blues 6 4 2 6 2
16 F Ryan Potulny Edmonton Oilers 6 2 2 4 0
93 D Keith Yandle Phoenix Coyotes 6 1 3 4 0

A whole lot of forth line nobodies with a few good young prospects sprinkled in with Yandle, Oshie, Okposo and then captain America Jack Johnson.

Agreed. A few more of these types of forwards and it won't be half bad. I wonder who the #1 goaltender is going to be? Schneider still mulling his options? Howard if the Wings get the boot?

We need Johnson and a goalie badly, without him we basically only have Smith has a proven scorer and without a decent goalie it's all over.

My current take on the lineup:

Forwards (x12):

Brock Nelson - Tyler Johnson - Craig Smith
Andy Miele - Tim Stapleton - Peter Mueller
Johnny Gaudreau - Vince Trocheck - Jimmy Hayes
Kevin Hayes - Drew Shore - Colin McDonald

Defense (x7):

Seth Jones - Jacob Trouba
Jake Gardiner - Jeff Petry
Matt Donovan - Connor Murphy
Jake McCabe

Goalies (x1):

Connor Hellebuyck

Notes:
  • 5 roster spots left: 3 skaters and 2 goalies.
  • Obviously need a veteran goalie at least. While I'm intrigued to see Hellebuyck play they can't just rely on him.
  • If they could add some talent (even inexperienced) up front that would be big but I doubt there are going to be very many options that are willing to play. Hopefully either Beau Bennett or Cam Atkinson want to play at the conclusion of that series.
  • I would imagine a guy like DeKeyser would be an obvious target for the defense but he's an upcoming RFA so who knows.

Here's hoping Anaheim loses to Dallas. I have a feeling Gibson will be our only hope.

A very mediocre looking team, even compared to our past rosters, but with a strong performance in net from Gibson and our defense looking to be decent, we might be surprisingly good.

Always fun to watch this team anyway, no matter how good the roster is. Let's go boys! :handclap:

Unless I'm mistaken, Gibson is currently the starting goalie for Norfolk in the AHL. If Norfolk loses in the first round of the playoffs (against Manchester) I suppose he might be avaliable...
