Something is wrong with Finland and Switzerland at the bottom of group B, well Finland should win tomorrow against Germany -leaving us alone with no points- but we were also supposed to win today.. Now the only thing I'm hoping for is that we win on Saturday against the Kazakh so we won't be relegated and they will, because they obviously aren't gonna get 3 points in this tournament if they don't beat us which I highly doubt. It's either them or us who's being relegated.

Don't worry the way KAZ has been playing, the swiss should blow them out of the water.

We still have 4 games left :
Kazakhstan, Germany , Latvia and ... Finland.
All are beatable ... let's not spin into delirious territory ! as per Finland ... well they are also in doubts !

We played ok minus vs a good Russia, we played ok plus vs the US but the gods of hockey and their priests (refs) didn't want us to get the points and we played poorly against Belorussian.

Now, we have the weakest teams ahead. (+ Finland ... but they also are runnning into some psycho-something so ... who will be most psycho ?? although they lost to Russia and Latvia so no need to become crazy again)

Of course we could loose everything ... the likelyhood is still that we win all the remaining games. We may even end up in the QF !!
QF is 4 teams !!We only lost 3 games so far. Assuming we win all others ... we could be in the QF ... .

All this to say that we didn't start well ... but ... it is always more difficult to start well when you play first Russia, then the US (with their reffs) than if you start with Kazakhstan and ... Kazakhstan ;-) .

All this to say that if, from now on, we have a good tournament, we can still medal again :)

PS : i saw some light in the tunnel, against Russia, against the US and against the Bielorussian therefore i am not totally without hope. And ... hey ... we scored 5 goals in the past 2 games !! (7 if we count the 2 vs the US)
This team is still able to put something together.

Lot of optimism in this post. I agree in some points, but not totally.

Tournament is long and everything is possible. The swiss showed what they have in them, in the game vs the us boys. But i didnt like how they played in the other two games, especially vs belarus.
Too much room for opponents offence and too many mistakes. Berra was good and had some bad luck. I would roll with him for the next game.

They definitely have to be more aggressive in there own zone vs germany and minimize the individual mistakes. It's gonna be a tough fight. I guess and hope they will turnaround, Win vs Germany, win vs Borat and even latvia. But they will lose vs hardfighting not so skilled finland.

Depending on the other results that could even be enough for qf or not

Bad news for Nino. The Wilds are out.

The good news for the Swiss team, he is joining us.
Hopefully it will not be too late and he will play MANY games.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason for the unexpected registration of Froidevaux was that Simpson got the confirmation that Niederreiter wouldn't join anyway.

Too bad Pittsburgh screwed up, we could really have used Diaz.

This is correct, Niederreiter won't be seen playing in Minsk.

I remember him saying he would come to Minsk !

now the Wilds are eliminated. So that was a simple logical inspired quote.

Yet if he is not comming ... :shakehead sad ... although we have opened the floodgates ... we are not in excess of fire power.

... Whatever ... maybe i put a wrong info. sorry for that !

I understood that it's not up to Niederreiter himself, Switzerland just decided to sign Ramholt.

Ramholt was a placeholder for Diaz, what I don't understand is why both Plüss and Froidevaux were registred.

Plüss was obviousely registered for Bärtschi.
Froidveaux was registered because on international level you can go one or maybe two games withough a 13th forward, but that's it.

What the hell is Ramholt doing here?! Anyway he won't get much ice time so it shouldn't be a problem..
Personally, I could see Ramholt replace one of the trio Seger/Blum/Grossmann:
The way Seger has been playing I wouldn't mind Simpson trying something new. Don't understand me wrong, I love Seger for all the things he's done so far for the ZSC and the national team, but this version of him just drags the team down.
Blum could also need a replacement but that shouldn't be someone who's even slower than him.
Grossmann has no business on this team. I didn't know what Simpson saw in him before the tournament and now even less.

Weber, for all the abuse he had to take, has played like expected in my opinion. He has his defensive weaknesses but he's the only one besides Josi who's able to create something offensively. And compared to Josi, although admittedly the matchups aren't the same, he's played better in his own end.

Apparently Nino said already a week ago that he would not come. So the roster spot was for Diaz who now progressed to the next round.

Ramholt had 2 shifts, -1, he won't see much more in the coming games, he gets outplayed by Schlumpf, Kukan and Co.

Scratched tonight. Even though I´m relieved about this, I somehow feel for the guy. He was so happy that he had finally made the roster, after being cut from the team countless times, and after two shifts it´s already over.

That's one more shift than he had in his NHL-career. ;)

But you are right, that's not an easy thing to handle.

I thought Ramholt would be good enough to be a 7th/8th defenseman in this team, really disappointing performance from him.

On the bright side, the team was able to cut down the individual mistakes yesterday and it resulted in a much better defensive performace. The only players I'm still worried about are Seger (what happend to him? His play with ZSC didn't suggest he wouldn't be able to do it at this level anymore) and :eek::eek::eek:i (bad positionning on both goals yesterday).

Hopefully we see the same level of concentration tonight, and the fourth place will still be possible.

I saw the shift he had in NHL, with Calgary ... Phaneuf ... he didn't really have his chance. It was unfair in my view.

It is like having the 4th place ... no medal.

++

2 players i like these WM are Moser and Weber.

Moser is always in the dirty areas ... in the right spot ... but somewhere he fails systematically to bury the puck. If he had the scoring touch, he would be a beast. Yet to go around this, he is a good passer. Which is not bad neither.

Weber has really showed quietness and shoulders. He became much better since he is in Vancouver alone (without Diaz). He started playing more regularly in Vancouver (maybe because of injuries) and it shows it. 2nd best Dman.
He made no big mistake this WM ! pity he doesn't use more his blue line shot.

I Agreed about Seger, but not :eek::eek::eek:i. If you look at the two goals again you can see that for the first one,:eek::eek::eek:i covered his opponent the whole way to the crease. It would have been the responsability of a winger to cover the point man.
The second goal is mostly on Weber.:eek::eek::eek:i went to the puck-carrier in the corner and Weber was in front of the net. Weber then was just a little bit too slow to prevent the guy from driving from the back to the net to the front, but it was a very unfortunate goal to begin with...
:eek::eek::eek:i has been very good defensively in my opinion, he´s always the first forward back in the own end and he backchecks hard. Offensively, he´s just not clicking with his linemates for whatever reason. I think the others are just too slow to get in on his ideas and that he is trying too much to keep to the system. He needs a winger like Wick on the Lions or Bodenmann (in a good shape) on the national team. The best candidate would be Brunner, but why split him and Romy. Maybe Fiala or a try-out of him and Suri.

The guy that worries me the most is Blum. He looses way to many pucks while playing break-out passes and he has even had some terrible turnovers in the own end yesterday.

It's definitely not Ambühl's fault. The play broke down when Schlumpf pinched and failed to take either the puck or the player. Ambühl reacted well to this mistake and took over the defenseman spot, and Schlumpf also reacted quickly and was the third man back on the play.:eek::eek::eek:i should have read the situation better, realise that there was already three men down and stay higher instead of gliding all the way to the goal line. It all started with Schlumpf's mistake, but Ambühl and Schlumpf reacted well to it and the goal could still have been prevented.

The second goal is mostly on Weber.:eek::eek::eek:i went to the puck-carrier in the corner and Weber was in front of the net. Weber then was just a little bit too slow to prevent the guy from driving from the back to the net to the front, but it was a very unfortunate goal to begin with...

Once it was obvious Seger was in trouble (he was behind the goal line, covering neither Jokinen nor Haula), the correct play for the center is not to commit on the guy in the corner, the only forward who wasn't in a dangerous position on the play. Weber can't go after Jokinen as it could have opened the slot for the third forward (like when Josi let Oppenheimer sneak behind his back on Germany's second goal on Wednesday).

Most players are just half what they would be worth in another condition.

The good thing with this is that, when all the team sucks, you change the coach.
It's like a natural cycle that is taking place.

Should i compare the presence of Simpson in the Swiss team with the presence of a good looking girl ?
As much as I appreciated his presence
as much i will appreciate seeing him walk away. (girls walking away are always nice to look at)
(and may this funny illustration not misrepresent my true appreciation for all he did for Swiss hockey)

Time for change ... and for everyone i am sure. Simpson must be tired of the Swiss environment. I am convinced.

it's a pretty strange WC so far...

when you just look at the quality of hockey the swiss deliver... I guess it's the second best tournament they have played in the "new age of hockey" (... yeah, they were run over by the russians, but they played better than the result indicates in my opinion). it just shows what influence momentum/lucky bounces/confidence for most teams have on this level. (except for the very best like Russia or Sweden)

Besides, the level of play the underdogs show at this tournament is awesome, as well as the all-around level... compared to the olympics the teams seem to play with much more joy and less tactics... just very watchable!

With the beautiful facilities, fans, team-shirts (god, you gotta love the czech and the swiss jerseys) and in-game atmosphere... I guess it will be remembered as one of (if not) the very best tournament. and this in an Olympic year. (so much about the non-relevance of a WC in an Olympic year)
Chappeau, to Beorussia and europeen fancultures!
