Proposal: PIT-WSH

I think you have the 4th on the wrong side.

I think Acciari is tradeable, but it would likely be similar to the Eric Fehr trade from the Penguins old cup teams. Something like Acciari and a 4th for an AHLer.

Last thing Pens need is cap. They won’t do that.

GMs won’t assign negative value to Acciari. Especially now that the cap is jumping.

And rightfully so, he’s been brutally miscast as a Penguin. He should be out on the wing.

No thanks from Caps. We are looking for bigger fish.

Mangiapane, Frank, Raddysh, Duhaime, Vrana, Milano, Leonard, Mironischenko, and if we add top6 - also McMichael. Thats 8-9 bottom6 wingers as it is.

Theres just no need or spot for Acciari.

I like Acciari but he doesn’t move the needle or really displace anyone. I guess he’s an upgrade on Raddyish but that’s not going to make a significant difference.
Wasn’t there a thought from Friedman or someone that Washington didn’t want to mess with their chemistry too much? Was my thinking with the proposal but I could be remembering incorrectly.

The opinion of this Caps fan is that the main guy on the Pens - that may be available - that I'd go after is Rakell. He provides the top 6 scoring the Caps reportedly want, and I'd expect that his cap hit won't be too much of an impediment to their ability to fill out the rest of the roster with good pieces.

That's interesting because I wouldn't have considered the Capitals a team looking for a winger like Rakell. They definitely have the futures assets the Penguins would want, they have a top-10 prospect pool and pretty much all of their picks.

Mangiapane, their 2026 1st and another piece for Rakell looks pretty reasonable. I think the Penguins targeting Lapierre as the third piece would actually make a lot of sense, but I'm unsure if that would be too much from Washington. It's tough to gauge Lapierre's value right now.

Yes that’s true, but I take everything insiders say about Washington with a grain of salt. Friedman also said he wouldn’t be surprised if Washington dropped a bombshell trade that nobody saw coming (like Vrana for Mantha, Brouwer for Oshie, Jensen for Chychrun, etc). The Capitals front office is notoriously tight-lipped and has very few if any credible leaks.

Caps fans are split on how to approach the deadline. Some are concerned about messing up chemistry, others want to make bold moves since the team is good and Ovi is getting old.

They also have to consider Ryan Leonard in all of this. He more than likely will sign after BC’s season and will probably be in the lineup for Washington in the playoffs, so that’s already one addition they need to account for.

Would be very very disappointed if we traded 1st+Lapierre+Mangiapane for Rakell.

Just not the guy i would want us to target.

But in general, yes, Caps are looking to add top6, not bottom6.

I don't think it's as bas as you might think. A 2025 1st, especially a high one, is not THAT valuable in this weaker draft. I would suggest 25-32OV is similar to a normal 2026 2nd. Lapierre doesn't seem to have a home? Seems like he's doing fairly well in the AHL but can quite stick in the NHL with a full roster nor will he be ahead of several of the other prospects coming up - Parascak, Miro, Protas, Leonard, Cristall, etc. Mangiapane is a cap dump at this point for you guys and you get to upgrade the top 6 with a 35g scorer who is hot this year. He's also signed for a very reasonable $5mil for the next three years. Very good deal with the rising cap.

A 2nd + prospect that is currently a victim of a logjam...is not that high of a price to pay for a top 6 wing upgrade.

If the Caps don't make a bigger move I like it as 13F insurance, although I wonder if they try for someone they are more familiar with like trying to bring NAK back.

I dont mind the 1st.. i like Lapierre a lot but dont think he untouchable or anything, Rakell just isnt what id target. Especially for both those pieces. Maybe one..

And Mangiapane isnt a cap dump. He is good third liner.

Based on what Zucker was traded for last year, his value is basically nothing.

Last year, Zucker had 25 points in 51 games for the Coyotes and was traded at full salary for a 6th. If Mangiapane isn't coming with any retention, his value is about a 6th as well.
