Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 9 мин.

Expect Hockey Canada to name Dave Tippett head coach for Worlds. DeBoer confirmed as assistant. Maurice and Maclean also in mix.

Additional Team Canada players: Ellis and Gudbranson confirmed on D. Brouwer and Ward confirmed as well.

I'm glad to see Ellis. As far as everything else... good luck to Tippett.

What's most bizarre (if Dreger is accurate) the roster will be finalized by tomorrow. Not even waiting for the 1st rd to end to see what becomes available. I can't figure that one at all.

Bronze medal or bust?

There isn't yet a single legitimate candidate for a roster spot on a significant team. Not in the near future anyway. It's really a waste this year. The 2010 team was never a threat to win the championship, but at least it had guys like M. Staal, Stamkos, Tavares, Duchene, Eberle and Kane who were threats to make an impact for Canada internationally in the near future once they matured. Perry as well. This team doesn't even come close to that.

Definately a solid contender for 5th place.

This is shaping up to be one of the worst rosters we've sent in ages. Granted most Olympic years see the majority of top players taking a pass, but this year it's especially bad.

Has Rielly actually confirmed going? I thought he'd be joining the marlies for their playoff run.

Agreed.

Canada has gone out in the QF's in the past four WHCs, yet during those years the rosters included:

2010: Tavares, Duchene, Perry, Kane, Eberle, Stamkos
2011: Reimer, Bernier, Pietrangelo, Methot, Phaneuf Tavares, Spezza, Skinner, Neal, Nash, Eberle, Kane, Duchene, Ladd
2012: C Ward, Keith, Bouwmeester, Vlasic, Phaneuf, Tavares, Getzlaf, Eberle, Sharp, Kane, Perry, N-Hopkins, Benn, Skinner, Burrows
2013: M Smith, Hamhuis, Stamkos, Giroux, Ladd, Duchene, Eberle, Skinner, Hall, J Staal, E Staal

Some pretty good names (including 2014 olympians), compared to this year so far.

Thankfully, the top four teams make it out of each pool and since we're in with Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Rep, France, Italy, Norway and Denmark, we're likely looking at another QF exit.

Some serious underachieving going at this event lately, as meaningless as it is to most Canadian fans.

They do seem to be mailing it in this year. They usually leave at least 2-3 spots open for late arrivals.

I don't quite get the rush... still loads of time before the team needs to fly out...Anyway... without even the young stars getting their first taste of international action, this tournament holds even less appeal for me. I do like Monahan's inclusion though. He's a smart player and a shot at making the A team in 5 years + or -

But who knows, maybe a team of NHL ham and eggers will come together, bond and defy expectations. (Although I won't be making any bets on that scenario.) just wishful thinking.

Is there any word on Alzner? Brouwer and Ward have accepted from Washington, but Alzner is the only Washington player who might someday benefit Canada.

Well, the U.S. won bronze last year with an extremely suspect roster. Chemistry and timely goaltending seem to be the keys rather than an all-star team.

I don't know if it really matters. Out of the teams likely to be eliminated in the first round, I doubt Seguin and Benn go given how this roster looks. I think Johansen would go. The best thing for this team would be a Colorado loss, as maybe MacKinnon, O'Reilly or Barrie would go.

Alzner on the big ice will be exposed. Pick the 15 best skaters you can find, get a competent goaltender and anything is possible. Ask the Latvians. Canada needs skaters not names. Alzner has difficulty with speed on the small ice, over in Europe, he will be pitiful.

Toronto's James Reimer has agreed to play for Canada at upcoming Worlds.

Ouf. Although we've had plenty of stars recently and won jack**** at this event, so maybe going in as huge underdogs will be a good omen.

Our roster is already better than the American's roster.

Once again. This tournament has nothing to do with how 'skilled' each team is. It's how you play as a team.

Rielly been confirmed by Dreger.

Bozak is not confirmed, but one would expect him to say yes..

Along with Johansen, Ryan Murray would be available if Columbus goes out in the 1st round.

He's better than Rielly and if Rielly's already going I would assume they'd at least ask him.

Seeing as he was on the team last(?) year, I would assume so as well. Him being better than Rielly at this point is arguable. Different types of players. Both playing well.

Any News if Strome or Hamonic were invited(I am guessing Strome is a longshot but I thought Hamonic was a lock)
