In Finland, selling alcohol in markets is only allowed from 9 AM to 9 PM. Liquor stores are open from 10 AM to 8 PM in weekdays, to 6 PM in Saturdays and they're closed in Sundays.

I think that's just a good thing. The people of this country have such a big problem with alcohol, it has to be controlled somehow. Take away the alcohol tax and make it available everywhere and anywhere, you'd see this country go down the drain.

Nah, it's just annoying. Doesn't limit the alcohol consumption at all.

If they start closing the shops earlier on Fridays and/or raise the taxes even more, we'll just go and get the booze from Estonia. The problem with that is that the government, which already had to make serious savings and controversial decisions in the recent budget talks, is turning down easy money in form of tax euros.

I actually think us Finns drink so much partly because of governement tries to control it so much. You know, "****ing governement trying to tell me how to live my life" and so on.

Of course people can always a find a way to get alcohol from elsewhere, especially the alcoholics. But for most people, especially those living outside the greater Helsinki area, going to Estonia isn't something they can do every weekend, plus those serious alcholics can't probably even afford it. All these measures are meant to guide consumption. If getting alcohol is made inconvenient enough, it'll lessen consumption.

Plus it's all about changing the culture. When smoking was banned inside nightclubs, everyone said it wouldn't change anything since people would just go outside to smoke. And in the beginning, it didn't change anything. But I think they published a study earlier this year that smoking while partying has lessened 60%, mostly due to this change. So it always takes time before the effect can be seen.

I actually think us Finns drink so much partly because of governement tries to control it so much. You know, "****ing governement trying to tell me how to live my life" and so on.

Somehow it's very hard for me to see Finns drinking just to say f u to the government  Drinking is in our culture and that's the problem.

I'm not saying it's the entire reason, but I think the attempt to control it too much doesn't help.

I mostly agree. I think excessive drinking is way too socially acceptable in this country. However, I'm not sure if the limitations will help curb it. There has to be a bigger change in culture than what those limitations by the government can bring. Finns are stubborn people, if they feel their freedom's being limited by the government, they'll find a way to get around it.

Yeah, but I'd imagine that's what they're trying to do with those limitations, change the culture. If alcohol can be gotten from anywhere, then that messages that it's acceptable to drink anywhere, whenever. If you restrict it in some way, either by making it more expensive or make it harder to get, people start thinking "Ah, I can't be bothered to get drunk this weekend, it's too expensive / I'd have to run to the shop quickly after work and that's annoying with the traffic". Then when parents drink less, children don't get to see it as often, thus lessening it's role in the culture.

But yeah, there will always be alcoholics, even if you outlaw alcohol completely. It would just be better if people could learn to drink socially, instead of drinking to get drunk.

That's true. Anyway, I'll play some NHL and then I'm off to drink due to Friday.

Just having a drink and still working on my wedding music...less than 36 hours to go.

Also, this is great. My fiancee tells me that my parents are coming over to open our wedding presents the day after. Okay? What time? "Late morning." We have a reservation for brunch though. What time are we eating brunch? "Our reservation is at 10:30". Well how the **** are we supposed to have my parents over in the late morning while going out to brunch at the exact same time?

Honestly, women. Honestly.

If your future wife is anything like mine, once everything starts, she will completely forget all the nonsense that's gone on for all the planning.

My wife turned into a nutjob the month leading up to our wedding and completely reverted to the woman I wanted to marry as soon as the wedding started.

Good luck! Have fun! Take a lot of pictures, you won't remember anything a few weeks from now.

Nevermind. Friend just called, "oh yeah sorry we're a bit late". He was supposed to be here at 8 PM. It's 9.30. I told him not to bother any more.

At least tomorrow will be much better, and I'll save some money, too. Nothing of value was lost.

A place.
I'm disappointed in myself, I had a chance to approach that girl from my class, she was alone and I did nothing.

I'm switching out of that class.

Lesson learned.

Quitters never get the girl. Just go up and say hi, ya big blubbering ball of coward. The only way to gain confidence in that stuff is to just do it over and over and over, regardless of failure.

No ****. I wish that culture would just drop off the face of the planet. I have no problem with the music itself, but the culture it inspires is just garbage.

those Kmart adds are the Hot Cheetos and Takis kids, right? Probably a welcome funding boost to their inner city youth program. What *******s.

edit: ha! after reading up on it it sounds like the group members (parents) were disappointed that they didn't get any of the iTunes money so they left the youth group and renamed themselves to try to make bank...lel.
oh well, lets see how much of that money goes into the ol' college fund.
