Can someone who knows more than me about TV's talk me into or out of 120hz?

I keep reading tons of mixed-message jargon about it making fast motion look like a soap opera, and I'm just looking for a TV for gaming and hockey.

I intend to buy Vizio, and saw this today. Decent deal, and I'm a huge fan of Amazon. But I don't know that it's quite right for me.

Any opinions out there?

LG 47" for $300 at Wal-Mart in store only.

See if your local Wal-Mart has one of those babies instead. Saving money is awesome.

Or a 55" LG for $450
47" Vizio $300

Wal-Mart Labor Day Sale.

That last Vizio is close to what I'm looking for. But I want to get LED, and I need AT LEAST 3 HDMI ports, preferably 4...

PS3/4, AppleTV, HTPC, Cable box. I hate swapping cables, so that's not something I really want to compromise on.

I just sold my vehicle, so I'm not tough on money, I just don't want to go over $5-600, the value just isn't there for the size I'm looking for (mid-40's to 50).

edit: also, none of those are available anywhere in the metro.

get the fastest processor possible. soap opera effect is fixable in pretty much every TV by tuning the picture settings. if you do twitch gaming (online shooters) then you might notice input lag with certain TVs (Panasonic plasmas are still pretty much the best picture you can get, but the latest ones have the worst input lag...not enough to notice for casuals but still there). The lag comes from the TVs processor power and how much **** it runs as far as background picture control (motion blur, smart TV polls, pixel orbiting, etc) goes. http://www.avforums.com/ is a great place to go for deeper opinions/reviews on TVs.

Looks like I'll be buying a new television as well for my dorm. Was a mistake two years ago buying such a small television (only 22"), my mom just uses it in the kitchen now. I plan on going at least 32" this time. Not looking to buy an expensive tv though so just getting one at Target will do.

Is there much of a difference between 60 and 120 Hz? I've heard that for gaming you want more Hz.

So I have saved up enough money for a decent down payment on my 1st home and will continue to save. Just wanted to know how I should go about finding the right home. Do I really need to hire a real estate agent?

Off to the Apple store to see how much they're gonna screw me over on making ridiculously minor repairs to my laptop.

Yes, it's much smoother. But if you're getting a TV and you want 120 Hz, make sure you get a TV that's ACTUALLY 120 Hz, and not just saying it is. Most "120 Hz" TV's are really just 60 Hz TV's that have some stupid frame blending feature built in to make it look like its 120. You'll be paying more for a real 120 Hz TV.

As a matter of fact, let me ask you this. Are you using this on consoles? If you are using it on consoles and not a PC, then it doesn't matter what you get. Current gen only does 30 fps anyway, and next gen will only do 60 fps.
