Again, what would that look like if an actual political bias was in fact built into the algorithm? Certain keywords focused on what? Racial statements, religious statements, reproductive rights, what exactly would a programmer slip into an algorithm, be approved company wide, that specifically targets the tweets of one party and not the other party? Can it be done? Sure. Is it actually part of the algorithm? Very very unlikely.

What is more likely is, the algorithm seeks out violations of the terms of service (which are public) and flags them for review by humans, who make thousands of decisions on if the algorithm got it right, or the Tweet is in fact compliant with the ToS (or at least they used to refer to humans but I think they're all gone now)

What is also more likely, and fairly easily provable, especially now that Musk owns the code, is that one party Tweets in violation of the ToS more than the other party, making them think they are being treated unfairly. As the article you posted says, you don't even need to see the code, you just need to see the inputs and the outputs to know what the algorithm is flagging. The obvious result is, if you submit a lot of ToS violations you're going to get a lot of flags. That's not bias on the algorithm, its bias on the part of the person Tweeting.

Again, as Goon so thoroughly points out one post above, there are a jillion conservative posts every day on FB and Twitter. If the algorithm was truly biased against conservative messaging that would not happen. THe algorithm is in fact biased against violations of the ToS, as it should be.

It doesn‘t even have to be, but If you wanted to do it on purpose, you would somehow manipulate it to guide people to things you want them to be exposed to, to spread more disinformation to select, more easily manipulated groups, perhaps one’s prone to violence, civil disobedience, etc…

I didn’t say it was bias, but it is 100% a possibility and it doesn’t even have to come from nefarious means.

Honestly I don’t really have an opinion on whether or not Meta or Twitter or Tik Tok or whatever manipulates users for nefarious reasons, but it shouldn’t be dismissed as impossible.

If Musk willingly and fully shares Twitter IP (code) for that, I’ll be surprised.

My biggest pet peeve with Twitter in general is how shitty their algorithms are. I go to Twitter primarily for sports information, not to see people rage posting about politics and other hot button issues. Yet, Twitter constantly jams that shit down my throat. It doesn’t matter how many times I press “disinterested” or “dismiss.” It’s always there. All the time. Either their algorithm is that bad, or they purposely do it to drive engagement because 75% of people in this world get triggered online about those topics.

I don't understand this, when I go to Twitter all I see are posts from people I follow in reverse chronological order.

I get some ads that I can block or ignore, but I don't get any suggested content.

Maybe play with your settings?

Facebook has been doing this more than Twitter, I think.

The regular twitter "home" feed should just show you what DD above said. The FB feed is a nightmare of manipulated and gamed content designed to increase interaction via strong reactions (that's why they have those reaction icons...to track your preferences and boost controversial content) and therefore boost ad revenue.

FB was also busted manipulating peoples' feeds in an experiment to see if filtering them "bad news" would change their mood and behavior. Totally amoral.

MedStar (Caps practice facility) in Arlington is the best adult league in the area. I’ve played for various teams in five different leagues around here and the league at MedStar is the most competitive. We have a handful of guys on our team who live in DC and they normally rent a ZipCar and car pool or a few of them have their own cars. DuPont is only ~15 minutes from the rink at that time of night so it’s not a big inconvenience to get there. DM me if you’re looking for a team, we’ll likely have a few roster spots available for next season. I can also put you in touch with the guys who run the pick up games in the area which are mostly an A level skate but those rinks are also in VA or MD.

There's a big league at the Laurel Gardens Ice House. I think they have 8 men's divisions with about 8 teams in each division. They have a free agent list you can sign up for, or send me a dm if you want more info.

Pretty tough to get from DuPont to the Ice Gardens without a car but I agree that it’s a good league. Used to play there during the summers and during the various winter breaks in my college days. I think The Gardens and MedStar are the two best leagues in the DMV.
