Damn.
I think they sign him. He's picked it up this year. This regime selected him.
Of course, this will then lead to a discussion I plan to spearhead all summer about the overflowing forward pile in Rochester
(wtf do you do with Murray,Weissbach? dev window is basically over)
(rosen likely back, does kulich make the big team?)
(ostlund over if they dont make the shl?)
(mersch has a 3 year ahl only deal; Jobst has 2)
(bloom, nadeau are locks to come; marjala, neuchev, konecny all possibilities; no way they sign huglen)
Rather than it getting lost in the Marjala thread... how about here?
I'm torn on Marjala. TPS has him listed at 6', 178.5 lbs and he's playing in the Liiga now after having a very good season in the Finnish U20 league thus far. They don't have an option to continue to wait since they selected him out of the Q and this is now 2 years since he was drafted. He's another in the line of smaller, offensive minded forwards that seem to populate a ton of their prospect pool. They already have Kisakov as sort of a long-term development guy. Maybe if they sign him, they leave him with his contract with TPS for another season.
Since Murray hasn't had an opportunity this year, and probably doesn't get much of a look unless something dreadful befalls the team I'm not sure he gets a look in any sort of meaningful minutes to end this year. The shift from development to winning in the coaching rhetoric sounds like they won't be giving any kid from the farm much of a look even if he looks like he's improved his skating from previous years. He's still big but does not angrily impose with his size.
Weissbach has had some flashes but of late, I'm wondering where he is on the nights the Amerks need offensive spark. Again, small and quick, offensively minded, and I don't know if the position of the team affords them the chance to look at him in any way in Buffalo either. Same as with Murray, without dramatic need and a lot of terror on the part of fans.
Missing in your list is Biro who has been their best forward by eye test and Appert's commentary. He's at 76 points in 97 AHL games but seems to have a hard time not getting concussed right now. Again, small - 170 lbs. - but fast. He might be helpful but how can they justify bringing him up when they're now trying to win?
Rosen is in AHL year one and does not look like he's even remotely close.
Kulich is further along than Rosen, but I don't see him doing enough right now to think he's making the NHL out of camp next year. Might he get a recall look next year? Sure. Heck, the penny might drop in the Amerks late season playoff debacle, err push and he rips things up to change that evaluation but
right now, no, he's not close. And the question of the day for me... does he play center or wing down there going forward? At the moment, he and Rousek are sort of floating between the two and at least against Cleveland, he didn't look out of place there.
Bloom and Nadeau look like they should be locks. Kozak, Cederqvist, and Kisakov continue their development cycles.
They still need a dedicated AHL-level scoring center IMO - Malone is not it - but that can be some sort of veteran guy looking to continue to play for pay. Mersch and Jobst give them a total of 9 forwards for sure and they need about 14 bodies at forward but at least one they try to land has to be an improvement on Malone and his shattered body.
