Sabres #6 in Wheeler's annual rankings. Before everyone goes apoplectic -- he considers Power, Quinn, Peterka and Krebs all graduated.

Here's his rankings in our system:

1.) Savoie
2.) Kulich
3.) Ostlund
_____
4.) Levi
5.) Rosen
6.) Johnson
7.) Portillo
8.) UPL
_____
9.) Neuchev
10.) Kisakov
11.) Nadeau
12.) Lindgren
13.) Poltapov
14.) Leinonen
15.) Marjala

No idea how Bloom doesn't even get an honorable mention from Wheeler. Like it's mind-boggling.

Agreed….he should be in 8-10 range in my books. Nothing on Kozak either who would be 10-12

We've got a few gems in there. Just a lot of guys who haven't fallen off the ice of the earth.

R2 heating up offensively for his NLA team, could be a nice add for the Amerks at the end of the season. They talked like it wasn't a closed door when he went to Kloten, I'm wondering if that's still a possibility.

I’m not going to look for the teams that ranked 1-5 but good for them having a pool somehow better than one where Isak Rosen is ranked 5th. Feels unlikely

Here's the thing though. We've got a pretty clear "Top 5", and all of those have a shot of being really good.

Johnson at #6 is going to play a lot of NHL games in some capacity, somewhere (hopefully here).

After that though, the quality in our prospect pool kind of takes a nosedive. You've got a lot of "this kid could be good if things go right" and a bunch of "maybe this kid becomes a tweener?"

1-5 there aren't many that compare to us. But I absolutely imagine there are a few teams out there that go deeper with legit talent.

The guy they have 8th is 13-6-2 in the actual NHL this season

8th

A guy from Johnson/Portillo’s draft class is heading to the AHL all star game and is unranked.

Good night for a little CHL prospect watching - Nadeau is having himself a night thus far with four goals and an assist. Matthew Savoie and the Ice just got under way against Calgary.

Things change fast - intercept on the Calgary side of center ice by Savoie, then over to Benson who finds Lambos while Savoie drives the middle to the net misses... and the Hitman counter and score.

Even more of "hockey is a funny game"... Savoie wins the faceoff cleanly back to the right point (his 7th win on 8 faceoffs) and the defenseman fumbles the puck into a rush against where Beaupit makes not only the first save, but the second... but can't get to the third. So he's a minus 2 so far and had done really excellent work on both plays that wound up in the Ice net.

Same mindspace.

I'm sitting here saying 'hes playing solid, dominating in the dot, good possession, and this mfer's -2'.

Got a goal back though. Alex Tuch turnaround snipe special

I have that one on mute so I missed it live.

Also, if Savoie could translate his faceoff skills to the NHL... I know a lot of CHL guys who dominate that don't wind up top tier as they progress but that is one of those areas that would be such a bonus.
That would be a huge boon to our team even if he ends up on the wing he could still be the dedicated faceoff guy
