“He said since he’s been at school he’s been speaking to his parents “not a lot, but enough.””

I feel seen.

Watching Minny-ASU late. Huglen is playing checking center tonight from what I've seen. Again, liking Johnson's game in what I've seen as well.

About every third shift, Johnson is on the right side for Minny tonight. I didn't notice it as much last night, but he's getting time there and of course regularly on LD.

Mostly seeing Johnson with Faber so far tonight. Huglen still playing center, BTN confirmed that he was sick in the last few weeks.

Huglen intercepts, pounds it on net and the rebound comes out to Pitlick to put the Gophers up 2-0. Nice play.

Next shift for that line, Huglen seals the RW wall, forcing a turnover and he gets just a touch to Pitlick for another excellent chance. Johnson's been almost always on LD - Minny rotates their defense so it isn't as static. He's had shifts with Koster, Lacombe (who was on the right), and Faber in the 2nd.

What about Faber, could he suit us for this top 4 role in the future?

I don't see Minnesota being interested in trading him. He's also part of their four year defense corps that includes Johnson and Lacombe who will all be free to sign wherever if they decide to go that way. I expect all of them to sign with the team that currently holds their rights.

Pretty clear to me that RyJo went back just so he could spend another year wormtonguing Faber into going UFA and signing here.

Hopped into the Quebec-Gatineau feed after the BU-AF game and my, the Remparts are up 25-5 in shots but only 1-0 in score.

From the 2nd Gatineau-Quebec game:

Nadeau with two assists including on the OT GWG
Komarov with a goal and a shot block on Nadeau with the net empty that leads to the Remparts GTG.

Is it too early to say that the 2021 draft crop was exceptionally bad compared to other years? Not for the Sabres, but the draft overall?

How many kids behind Rosen are showing much if anything at all? The top 10 or even the top 3 isn’t blowing anyone’s socks off either.

We’re so lucky we had a top 2 pick that year.

Assuming you meant the 2021 draft? Personally I think it's still too early to tell. There are definitely some decent prospects in that top 10 but most of them lost a year of development so they are a little behind the curve right now. You also might see an extra late round hit or two because of how difficult it was to scout that draft.

Yeah definitely super early but it just seems like so far there isn’t much to get excited about league-wide after that top 10. Maybe Raty and that’s it.

And yeah, the top 10 is decent but when you compare to the years preceding it and coming up in 2023, it looks notably weak still.

I think that was one of the knocks on the draft, that in terms of high end talent it was lacking. You also had 4 Dmen taken in the top 10 so it could be a couple more years before we really see what Hughes, Edvinsson and Clarke can do.

Couple later guys other than Raty I think could turn out to be something are Svozil, Duke, Roy, Petrov, Lindbom, and of course the Sabres guys (Bloom, Nadeau, and Novikov).

It's a bit too early to say, yes.

But the whole thing on the 2021 draft was that it was Power and Beniers then another tier (Hughes, Eklund, Guenther, Johnson, McTavish, etc) that went another 10 or so players and then a complete crapshoot.

2021 also has to get an asterisk for the pandemic. Some of those guys lost so much time, nearly a full season's worth of missed games, missed experience, missed practices and missed coaching.

At the moment, Buffalo seems like they did pretty well somehow (at least volumetrically) with six guys under contract and four already playing professionally in the organization.

Looks like Nadeau is playing center for Gatineau tonight. Warren with his first of the year which surprises me.

Officially on "RW" but he is regularly the guy tracking deep in his own zone and not up on the point. Could be a breakout and footspeed thing - Kidney and Gendron are both much faster.
