Michigan - Notre Dame just underway. Portillo of course starting for the Wolverines. It'll be interesting to see if they get through the Irish who have pushed Michigan around in previous games.

Good game for Power tonight - noticeable in positive ways. Portillo was his usual self - excellent.
Been following your updates as always, Chain. I’m really hoping Power doesn’t go to the U20s this summer. Kid needs some rest. Encouraging to hear he played well tonight.

Welcome!

Yeah, I'm wondering about that - he's travelled a lot with the first attempt at the U20's, the to China for the Olympics, the possibility of time in Buffalo and maybe another WC's. It reminds me of Dahlin's draft year where he was worn down by the end of all of that his draft year.

He looked like himself tonight - mobile, stepping easily into forward positions in the offensive zone. Still get a little nervous at is positioning defensively but mostly he was good there tonight. To me, he sometimes drifts out into space and then is too far from his man to help in front if/when the puck gets through him and he's not a combative guy in puck battles. Nitpicking a bit, but hey, he's a 1OA! :D

The one piece of information I didn't know was that the Sabres have a scout based in Moscow.

Discussion of our Russian prospects start at 11:25.

Dynamo will faceoff against CKA in the second round starting tomorrow - should be interesting to see Michkov in the playoffs as much as seeing how Kisakov does.

Do we have to make any decisions on our unsigned prospects this summer? I know we usually have 2 years for CHL prospects but every once in a while theres one that needs to be decided right away.

Nothing earth-shattering. The 4-year window for most of the European draftees is closing for some. They might sign someone like Worge-Kreu since he's enormous and playing in the SHL, but his deal with IK Oskarshamm runs through next year so if they bring him over, he goes back for a year (like Ruotsalainen did). Kukkonen's deal with Lukko is up and other than being RD and flirting with almost making the U20's and blowing up his knee hasn't really looked all that great IMO. Cronholm is in the same boat as Worge-Kreu in that his deal with Linkoping goes through next year but he's been not impressive at all in ways that I would think they would want to sign him.

Filip Cederqvist has had a nice season for Djurgarden and should likely get a deal but like the others mentioned, he's signed by his club team through 2023 and would likely go back. Hopefully they ink him, it puts someone into the pipeline for the future who has speed and some finishing ability and he does it while being a decent size (6'2"/207lbs).

That's about it. The guys from last year who will probably get deals aren't yet pressing in Nadeau and Bloom.

Filip Cederqvist looks like a revelation, at 21 he has a better season than Asplund ever had in the SHL and better than Olofsson's penultimate season at Frolunda.

Let's not forget that Asplund had a great season going in the SHL until he got a cheapshot to the head from one of the Canadian imports he was playing. It took him a while to get over his injury.

Cederqvist should very much be on the radar as a pro contract guy. Good finish, good size, still PK's and skates extremely well.

Thank you. I couldn’t find the info on Nadeau or Bloom. While our prospect pool is amazing, theres a logjam of NHL level now D(Samuelsson, Fitz, Power, Bryson) with Johnson not far behind that masks the huge gap after that. We have forwards and goalies for days but i dont see any D from the late rounds these past 4 drafts who will make it. Novikov looks good but like all Russians hes 3 or 4 years out

Nadeau and Bloom are both on a 2-year timer since they were selected out of the CHL. However, with the seasons they have both had, they can and should sign both. Same with Kozak out of the WHL - he's impressed by unfurling an offensive game that people just weren't able to see in the COVID-impacted scouting.

It never hurts to have guys coming into the farm to push up from below. Injuries happen, development isn't always linear, and trying to be more balanced than reactionary to depth is something to strive for. They've had two previous RHD ebbs in the last dozen years which then wound up being overfilled going back to Regier's ill-fated 2010 draft for need philosophy at the top of that draft (Pysyk, Leduc, MacKenzie) and of course Botterill's acquisition of all the RHDeez in his tenure.

Would like to sign Worge Kreu and Kukkonen even if they are just loaned back to their leagues for a year. No on Cronholm.

Will they be able to look good in Rochester even if in the third pair?
