How's Poltapov looking? I only keep up with Sabres prospects Twitter now that I don't have a working tv, & my laptop is a dud.

Rank the last 5 drafts. I’ll start:

2021 (looks great, despite being recency bias)
2017 (hit on almost pick, the Davidsson pick was so bad that I can’t put It first though)
2019 (good value all through this draft)
2020 (nailed the first two picks, otherwise meh)
2018 (Dahlin slam dunk, Samuelsson was a good pick, the rest is underwhelming though)

The 2021 guys have been cool lately. Especially the high picks outside of Power. Rosen for one seems to have gone pointless in his last 8.

It was honestly just such a crap shoot of a draft. Going to be a lot of late round “steals”. Novikov and Nadeau could be those guys for us.

So far, so good.

2017 (hit on almost pick, the Davidsson pick was so bad that I can’t put It first though)

Davidsson looked very good at the U20's though in a checking role. Much of the rest though is very strong, with skill and skating throughout the later picks. The overagers look very good in retrospect with both Bryson and Weissbach.

2019 (good value all through this draft)

Still not keen on the shift up to take Huglen and Cederqvist and Botts ability to bleed picks constantly. Two guys... four picks. It's shown that having more kicks at the can is a better strat in later rounds than doing what they did.

2020 (nailed the first two picks, otherwise meh)

How are Constantino (9 points as a freshman in 11 games at North Dakota) and a guy playing in the Czech Extraliga at 19 meh? As for Lyckasen, he did play in the SHL in his draft year which is a solid indication of potential. SHL play is indicative of possible future pro success per rudimentary tracking models - it's a good thing.

2018 (Dahlin slam dunk, Samuelsson was a good pick, the rest is underwhelming though)

This is the problem with drafting relatively low-skill defensive defensemen in later rounds. Not a great place to take that gamble. Botts drafting...

Fair point, I guess I overlooked them given how deep our prospect pool. The last 5 years we’re developing guys drafted after the 1st round and I’m not used to that yet

Yeah, it is pretty wild to think they may get some non-first round picks to turn into something.
