For many months I enjoyed trolling that Johnson must be traded because he is a high profile junior and he is headed to CalPete land. I think that is the context we are operating under. Without CalPete context, there isn't a reason to think that he wouldn't sign.
That good?
Did plenty of others do that too? Fox, Vesey, Butcher, people like that?
Adam Fox 2018-2019?Curious who had the best... ?
Yea fox when he was 18 was 1.14, .966 at 19, and 1.4 at 20. Not sure who it was I didn't see anyone over 1.2 under the age of 20 since 99-2000 which is as far back as the site I checked went.Adam Fox 2018-2019?
edit. Think he was 21 that year
Fox didn't go UFA, he refused to sign with Carolina (and there is some talk that he indicated to the Flames he would refuse to sign there).
Most of the time, collegiate players who go to graduation and then get free agent status are NOT first round picks. Hell, they're rarely picked in the top three rounds. The handwringing is just so f***ing tired.
Just because he scored 25 points?Pastujov with 25 points in 14 games for guelph. Closest teammate has 14. I wish we'd had pulled the trigger on him at 52.
Because he was projected late 1st early 2nd so would of been good valueJust because he scored 25 points?
Not exactly, I was hoping we might get him before the draft.Just because he scored 25 points?
Well, I was also surprised that he fell so far, but I don't understand what is the reason? I would not mind if they take Pastujov, although I'm fine with Kisakov. Adams take Kisakov, high risk, high reward, just like with Pastujov, he could be Petan or maybe Johnny Gaudreau in the future, I am not against such a risk, especially before that Adams made a safe choice in Poltapov, which for sure will be at least a good third line player. Not exactly, I was hoping we might get him before the draft.
He has produced at all levels so far, u17, u18, USHL, now OHL. Mid second rounders are a crap-shoot, and we had already taken 3 picks in this draft. I would have liked to see a swing for the fences on production. Could be another Nic Petan, but could also be Brayden Point or Alex Debrincat.
And as Navy says, most did have him higher. Based on a average lists from Bob McKenzie’s rankings, Future Considerations, EliteProspects, SportsNet, The Hockey News, The Hockey Writers, McKeen, and Dobber Prospects he ranked 33rd.

It's weird that ever since Blake Wheeler did it Rangers and Leafs fans just immediately say Buffalo, Calgary and a handful of other teams college picks will do it. The Arizona GM even said they were partially to blame for what happened though. Outside of Wheeler, Fox and Vesey I can't really think of too many others that have gone that route, and Wheeler was the only 1st rounder. Most first round picks don't play four years of college hockey either.

It does look like there were a couple of players who also wouldn't sign with the team that drafted them from the OHL and then re-entered the draft. Jarret Stoll, Craig Anderson. But of the hundreds or even thousands of picks over the years, so few choosing that route makes it far far far less likely to happen than some of the board trolls would like people to believe.
Likely: Power = Canada; Rosen = Sweden; Poltapov, Novikov = Russia; Peterka = Germany, if released; Konecny = Czech.Which prospects are WJC eligible/likely to make their respective teams?
I thought the whole thing with Fox was that he was planning to sign an ELC with NY regardless which was why the Flames then the Canes ultimately traded his rights?Fox didn't go UFA. He signed where his rights were held.
Fox would have still had to play one more year in the NCAA before being able to be a UFA.I thought the whole thing with Fox was that he was planning to sign an ELC with NY regardless which was why the Flames then the Canes ultimately traded his rights?
