You are both looking at the United States incorrectly. The US is essentially 50 different countries united under one banner. So you've got New York (Italy) who has been hit very hard and you've got Utah (Sweden) who've never locked down.

More clear?

There aren't even 50 countries in Europe.

As someone who has lived in several countries including NA you have nailed it. Dead Center.

Jfont man I have to believe that you know that what is happening in CA and NYC is waaaaaaaaay more than a mere inconvenience and closer to oppression than anything else.
I live in Southern California. Would I like to go to the beach, or to the store without a mask? You bet, but I don't feel oppressed.

is this guy f***in serious?

They won't get it. Maybe some of it, but not all of it. It isn't the federal government's job to bail out the public employee pension systems of states which have run up huge pension liabilities. The public employee pension system in California is bound to fail someday. The day may be coming very soon, if the stock market doesn't recover. California collects a large portion of their revenue in taxes on the income and capital gains of stock options tech employees receive as part of their compensation.

California's State and Local Liabilities Total $1.5 Trillion | California Policy Center

We estimate that California’s total state and local government debt as of June 30, 2017 totaled just over $1.5 trillion. That total includes all outstanding bonds, loans, and other long-term liabilities, along with the officially reported unfunded liability for other post-employment benefits (primarily retiree healthcare), as well as unfunded pension liabilities.

I couldn't disagree with you any more. People are basically good if not prone to greatness. Everyone of us has a hero inside of them and we would see examples of it everyday if the media wasn't pure garbage and a CIA control operation designed to poison the well. That said the CIA NSA SS and the rest are 99% or even slightly more full of hero's and the fact that they have/do their jobs at all is proof of it. People have been driven to abject fright by this garbage media when the only thing to be afraid are the people who are trying to take your freedom. Left, Right or anywhere else anyone who takes away or tries to take away your right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness needs to be shown the door. Even then those people aren't garbage, I believe that there is still the potential for good in them. Other than that I respect your opinion even though I disagree with it.

Oh and I don't remember saying anything about society being a thin veneer but I guess I could have.
You of course can believe what you want but you're way off blaming the media IMO. The idea doesn't hold any water for someone like me who doesn't even have a cable package to watch the news, CNN, Fox or otherwise. My opinions are formed from direct observation of people in everyday life. You give them an inch, they take a mile, from the toilet paper hoarder to the billionaire to the human trafficker and everyone in between.

And yeah, it wasn't you, my bad: TSN: - How the coronavirus could impact the NHL’s bottom line UPD: NHL Season suspended MOD Warning post139

Saying what is happening in California is even close to oppression is insulting truly oppressed people everywhere. My grandmother and father (was only 3) escaped Germany during WW2. The shit she told me she saw done to people was horrifying. That's oppression.

Not being able to go to the beach, or go out to eat, or gather in large places, or having to wear a mask - all of which are temporary, is a f***ing cakewalk. Watching a bullet go in your upstairs neighbors head because they badmouthed a leader, that's oppression.

Then you should be familiar with this.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The same applies to our rights. If people do not fight at every turn they will be gone and oppression and tyranny will reign.

Are you really comparing the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany to someone not being able to do what they want during a pandemic? Please don't.

Are you really missing that those things didn't happen overnight and it was gradual decent into what became Nazi Germany? And it was because good people did nothing while rights were lost and dismissed it as nothing until it was too late - just as many of you are willing to do now.

PS. All you basically said was this is not oppression. My grandparents knew oppression and fled so when I flee thats when you know that you are being oppressed

The beach is symbolic. People are objecting to the lack of objectivity which went into making the decision to keep the beaches closed beyond the time when government scientists reported the half-life of the virus was very small in high-temperature and humidity environments. Add the breeze which is almost always present at the beach, and the fact a very high number of the infections were transmitted indoors, and healthy people who are not at risk pushed back against the lack of science and common sense displayed in maintaining closure of the beaches.

What people are most upset about is being unable to return to work and having their jobs, or the businesses they own be declared as non-essential beyond a point where it is quite clear the hospitals will not be overwhelmed. People know hospitals are not even close to capacity and are losing money. They know doctors and nurses have been furloughed from hospitals. People are upset they did what they were asked to avert a crisis in hospital care, and now they are being asked to continue to miss paychecks until there isn't a single death in the county in which they reside for 14 days straight. The "no deaths for 14 days straight" was an invention of Governor Newsom, and was never recommended by anyone at the CDC, or by doctors Fauci and Birx.

One of our basic rights is the pursuit of happiness. It uncertain times, or in times of great danger people are willing to set it aside. Times are more certain now, and the great danger in California never materialized.

I guess we just disagree on this. I don't see how this current situation leads to our government committing a genocide or trying to conquer the world, I guess. Our constitutional system is designed to prevent this very thing.

I agree with this. I just don't agree with the term oppression being used here, because it's a temporary situation. Also, remember the reason that the danger in California never materialized in the first place is because of the very things being called oppressive by some now.

Some of you are willing to allow surveillance and tracking of people. That will not end once this is over. They will find other reasons.

I mean, the whole county newscyclyed right by the Snowden NSA spying scandal without blinking an eye. It's still going on. So it's ALREADY started.

What about the Patriot Act? Old news.

Look, people gradually become accustomed to the abridgement of their rights until you look back and it's too late.

That poem is supposed to be a reminder to stay vigilant or evil will reign. I hope you can somewhat see what I mean clearer now.

Funny to see one side of the political spectrum worried of the abuse of power with the FISA court and the FBI after the Muller Investigation. This article seems like a deflection piece.

Anyhow, what do you guys think of the Elon opening his facility in Alameda County CA.

With everything he's said and done lately, I think he's clearly off his medication. If ever there was a shining example of "stay in your lane" it's that guy. Genius in some respects, complete f***ing idiot in others.

Like I said earlier, there are a lot of people operating in deliberate naivety, posting from a device that scans their thumbprint/face while tracking them via gps while making purchases drawing directly from their financial accounts, while pretending no one else has access to that information so they can make a stand.

Telling people to stay off the beach in April is nothing like China using thermal scans at store entrances to tag and track people with slight fevers.

Does that make it okay for our government to do it? That's the question.

The one thing people keep missing about why he was angry is that Alameda county put in place restrictions that far exceeded what Gov. Newson had in his reopening phase.
This is why Newson stated he was aware of the situation and why Alameda county put out word that they were aware of the Tesla reopening and hoped it would comply.. It's county officials overstepping their authority..

"I'm selling all my worldly possessions"
"We've named our kid TK-421!"

Dude is nuts.
