OK, this f***ing virus is doing it again...I will forever wonder why I keep getting surprised at the steep inclines, even though we've been through shit this for just about two years now.

Yes, I predicted a rise. But I thought it would be gradual. Should have known better. There is nothing gradual about this virus.

Yep

The next wave has really taking off in the Northern Midwest and NE. I expect our wave after Thanksgiving

ICU unchanged

I am going over the river and threw the woods to Grandmother's house tomorrow, so no update til Monday.
Have a great Thanksgiving
No worries. Orange County is also taking the ENTIRE four-day weekend off as well. I guess the virus didn't get the memo. It will be working hard all weekend.

Fauci: US could face ‘fifth wave’ of Covid as Omicron variant nears

Virus variants are cannibalistic. This is well established in influenza cases and appears to be the case in coronavirus cases as well. The DELTA variant has dominated all others in the U.S. for about six months now, replacing the ALPHA variant in two short months, never letting the LAMBDA variant get a foothold and basically eradicating the MU variant here. DELTA is responsible for 99.9% of cases presently in the U.S. There is early evidence from South Africa that the OMICRON variant is dominating the DELTA variant there. If so, it will likely dominate here as well in two to three months.

The severity of illness is the big question so far for OMICRON. Is it more severe, and can it cause "breakthrough" cases for vaccinated people? A report out of Canada appears to be the case. Another early interesting news item out of South Africa is that one doctor reported all the cases she saw were mild. That would be a game changer if true. Think of it: if the OMICRON variant dominates the DELTA variant, basically eradicating it from the U.S. landscape, but causing only mild symptoms and basically hospitalizing just a few people and killing no one, that's a path forward out of the pandemic.

I believe this is a pipe dream, however. I think we are in for a very rough winter. But one never knows. Here's hoping such a pipe dream comes true.

I think the winter wave was inevitable. We are already seeing it in Michigan and the other cold ass states.

Omicron is described as having much milder symptoms in patients
South African Doctors Say Patients With Omicron Variant Have ‘Very Mild' Symptoms

A virus' natural pattern is to mutate to become more contagious and less deadly. I have read a few times that Covid will eventually continue to move up the respiratory system and eventually become a cold. This seems very very early, but they have also describe multiple mutations with this strain. I think I read 6 earlier.

As always, time will tell.

You are right, the surge is inevitable and we are in for a rough winter anyway.

I am in the midst of reading "The Great Influenza" of 1918, and this point was well-driven. The virus will at some point mutate in that direction...unfortunately, it is taking a lot longer than previously anticipated.

I was hoping if it were more infectious it would be less deadly and though that appears to be the case you still want to mitigate it from further mutations

Hopefully it's milder because I wouldn't wish my last December upon my worst enemy but a combo of being sick + 3 vaccines makes me feel like Thanos
