Still can't get a mani/pedi though. Thousands have died as a result of becoming infected with COVID-19 through scissor to cuticle contact.
personally i'm shocked at how long they're holding onto this nail salon stuff. honestly the language initially sounded overtly racist and i'm surprised no one has brought it up

Imagine if you will, a virus so intelligent, it can tell the difference between someone cutting your hair and someone trimming your nails.

I have luckily never dragged in to a nail salon, but I watch a lot of Better Call Saul

The only thing I could imagine is more employees and customers in a smaller area, plus the crowd around the cucumber water

Or its been deemed as non-essential as possible?

It's been a long week for us.

I took my son with me to board up the windows at some of my properties. The tenants were in terrible shape. Exhausted, frightened, and confused. First, the insane lockdowns, then even more insane rioting and looting. Many of the local businesses felt the need to spray paint "We love George Floyd," "We love BLM," and "Minority Owned" messages on the plywood, just to avoid the tyranny of the mob. It was good for my son to see, to learn how deep the damage is when elected leaders abandon small businesses, the lifeblood of our economy, and let them burn at the altar of political correctness. We had to console, we had to reassure, and we even had to renegotiate a couple of leases. It was physically, mentally, and even spiritually draining, but I think we all will come through stronger and with a clearer vision of what needs to happen in November. I hope my son learned some lifelong lessons.

I took the family to the Eastern Sierras for a couple of days, just to recharge. No Covid madness, no criminal rioting and looting, where BLM simply meant Bureau of Land Management. We caught some big fish, took lots of pics, and simply relaxed. It was great. It was even better to come home and see that Trump's economy was already beginning to rebound, despite the lockdowns and riots. That is a testament to the strength and resiliency of the American people, hardworking citizens who simply want to make an honest living. They, too, have suffered injustices, but their answer was not to complain, demand, or destroy. Their solution was to simply work harder. And, more often than not, it worked.

It is an election year, so I have no doubt there will be more shenanigans directed at our economy. And, yet, after meeting with my tenants, I am still hopeful for a better future. I pray for all of us.

Why is one person's livelihood valued over another person's livelihood? Which of these fools running a local government do we believe has the requisite wisdom and impartial judgment to decide? Equal protection under the law is what we must observe. Public gatherings for protests were fine. Earning a living at a nail salon should be acceptable as well.

My daughters took me for a pedi on Father's Day a few years ago as kind of a joke. It was kind of relaxing to be honest. Kids and I laughed, had fun, it was a great day.

Because buying groceries is more essential than a pedicure, which is both non-essential and involves constant direct contact between people in an enclosed room.

No one is going to be happy with 'how' they decide businesses open, but it seems to be coming quickly now.

But I'm not surprised the argument has suddenly gone from "open safely" to "open everyone equally, this is unfair." Give an inch...

I don't know if any of you are24 hour fitness members but I would like to be first in line for a class action lawsuit. I pay for 2 years at a time through costco. I have seen the proposed changes 24 hour fitness is planning to implement. First and foremost is that they will close at 9PM to help the cleaning process. So even their name is now a bait and switch. They plan to close the pool area, so no pool, jacuzzi, sauna or steam room. They plan on closing the basketball court and moving machines in thereto be able to spread out everybody 6 feet. And the absolute worst part is they want to start taking reservations to make sure there aren't too many people inside which has always been a problem at 24 Hour Fitness. I'm paid in full til next July but I'm paid in full to a company that really no longer exists.

This is just it, once there was evidence of what segment of the population was most at risk, government should have made moves to protect them, not restrict everyone else. If you have seen on the news some of the precautions nail salon owners in other states are taking to protect their clients and themselves, you might change your mind. They aren't simply going back to business as usual.

Business owner's gave feet not inches, and now are expected to abide by the arbitrary, autocratic BS of the fools in local government who have never owned a business in their entire lives? I don't think it is wise to follow the advice of the incompetent people who can't protect the elderly in nursing homes.

Equal opportunity and treatment under the law, yeah it's kind of a big deal in America.

They should be willing to refund the money of anyone who no longer wants to be a member under those conditions.

sucks man. i'm lucky enough to have a smaller, more "hardcore" gym that didn't charge during the closure and has been open in defiance of the order for a number of weeks now

sounds like a fair legal argument that you signed up prepaid for something that isn't available any more. least i think they could do is give you a refund for the unused and remaining months

If I'm not mistaken, each industry has advocates/representatives in constant communication re: standards of practice to advise on reopening.

I agree a lot of it is going to be unfortunately arbitrary since no one knows all and they're just doing the best with what they have--but "full open now" for everyone is a slippery slope too.

It's not as simple as "equal opportunity and treatment" or different businesses wouldn't have different safety standards either, you need to operate under certain regulations to have a food truck, for example.

I've been on your side with the 'open with safety standards' for a while so I'm not against nail salons opening, fwiw, I am just saying it's understandable that we're proceeding quickly but with caution and a job with so much contact that people don't need is pretty likely to be far down the list.

and @The Tikkanen too--I've had to fight with LA fitness hardcore over this. They finally caved on giving CA no charges for April, but getting a cancellation/refund is like pulling teeth. They already shut my local one down for good (it's a different gym already!) yet they're stonewalling on cancellations. I can see lots of big business/small margin gyms getting kicked in the ass for their shady practices, finally.

I cancelled in January because I got tired of every time something in the pool area broke it took 6 - 8 weeks to fix it.

Agreed, the urinals break regularly at the Anaheim Hills location and they simply place a clear trash bag over it. They do the same with broken cardio equipment. They remove resistance machines and leave an empty spot. I have a friend who is a personal trainer and he told me back when he worked there they had a program where any profits the location made the GM could either pocket it or put it back into the location. I have no idea if this is still the system they use today but if it is the Anaheim Hills GM is surely living in a very nice home, driving a nice car and living comfortably while I pee next to a clear trash bag.

How about we all kick in and get you a spa day once this is all over ?

Once they're back in stock I'm buying a power rack for my garage and calling it a day.

Will miss the motivation of being around others, won't miss the shitty management and shady business practices and/or limited hours/service.

Totally. Wouldn't that skew the numbers though? That's what I was really asking.

I hate quoting myself so sorry about that.

The December/January thing changes a lot. If I had it, my 80 year old mother did too. As Herby said he has diabetes a supposed high risk group.

So essentially we're talking a much lower death rate. Am I right or wrong thinking this? I don't think we'll have a clear picture until more people are tested.
