I don't want to repeat myself (Well I guess I do because I stickied the first post on every page). If you mention the protests, do so in reference to COVID-19. I'm going to enforce this because I don't want this thread to get derailed again.

I was talking last night to a friend of mine who is a doctor and he has an interesting premise as to why people with diabetes are more adversely affected by the virus. So most if not all diabetes patients take an alpha blocker. This virus uses that specific receptor to attach to the cell. Because the body attempts to get to some sort of homeostasis, the body actually begins producing cells with more receptor which exacerbates the situation with the virus.

I am T1 diabetic. I just did the antibody tests and found out the really bad flu I had after returning home from SoCal in January was actually Covid.

Being a member of many different diabetic groups and forums it seems that like with most of society it's almost always about age and underlying medical conditions (codeword for obesity)

Reason 8,321,865 why doctors are smarter than us lay people

My uninformed theory was that diabetics are more prone to vascular damage.

Thanks buddy,

It was interesting, I had what felt like a flu basically for 3 days, felt much better for about 36 hours then got crushed badly for a few days after that. I am now hearing that is a common thing for alot of people who get it.

Can I ask :
Any after effects? Any lung damage?

No. It was just like a really bad flu. I didn’t have any concerns about not being able to breath. And my blood sugars stayed in range pretty well too (I do wear a pump now which helped). One of the reasons it or any serious sickness can kill T1 diabetics is because it can put us into DKA, I’ve been hospitalized twice for it, and both times it was during an illness.

Now I know we T1’s make up a small percentage of diabetics and most times people mention diabetics it’s T2. If it’s hitting T2’s hard I still think a lot of that probably has to do with obesity, which other than age is biggest risk in dying from Covid.

Same from me, Herby.

It's relevant to me too because I was really sick in January - broke out in a sweat, out of breath, winded, just walking to the bathroom. Could not stay awake for more than an hour - but that didn't fit with the Covid timeline. I actually think it started a little before Xmas because by New Year Eve I was really sick. I need to get tested.

My wife and kid were sick back in January. I think it was just the flu. But mine was very different. I was just extremely low energy for 3 days and that was it. No fever or body aches. Strange. Will try to get tested for antibodies

The riots, sure.

Imagine if you will thinking that going to a bar to get drunk on Budweiser is as important as buying groceries to feed your family, or voting on the future of the country you live in. And I guess we're just going to ignore that its the POTUS that's opposed to everyone voting by mail and wants to force everyone to go to public polling places? Of course, why not.
