In the end this is good. It's clarifying. NYI need to make some decisions. For me, I'd commit to keeping Lee (for at least next year), Barzal, Horvat, Holmstrom, and Romanov. Anyone else can go/be moved. Dobson? Idk, man. I really do not know.
I'd add Tsyplakov to that list simply because he's still going to have a very doable contract and we've come to see that he not only shows some - at times - special vision and can adeptly carry the puck, but is a strong player who makes ample use of his physical abilities.
Sorokin will be on most people's lists as well, although you've gotta wonder what the club thinks of Hogberg's capabilities as a back-up combined with whatever timeline the team has for Gamzin (playing KHL hockey) and Gidlöf (playing SHL hockey). Another route could be possible with one of the UFA layovers who'll be available this summer.
As for Dobson - and even Barzal - one needs to have an open ear. Admittedly, you don't look to move Dobson now while his value is hitting a possible low point. But if a Vancouver calls and says, "We're at that point where we're ready to move Elias Pettersson, Filip Hronek, and Nils Hoglander and if you send the more affordable Barzal and Dobson our way in return, we'll take Engvall as part of the package to help make the money work. We know you've got your guy whose good with getting the Russians over, so we'd throw in the rights to Kravtsov as well to help you with the decision. He and his agent surely see what's gone on with Sorokin and is going on with Tsyplakov now. And this acquisition would surely add some spice to your relationship with the boys in the city too", then it's gotta be something oyu consider.
I think it'd be hard to move on from Lee at this point and understand why you have him above, but it's really not unthinkable that one or two of those Western Conference contenders could offer something nice and shiny to bring in a Lee in his current form. He's getting less than 6 this season and is only due 4.5 next season.
A couple of those teams have some real young, good players who could use a bit more sheltering and leadership.
If ownership and management are thinking in an open manner about the possibilities, well, there could be a whole lot.
My "don't touch list" (because I think you can take a totally awesome and radical new direction with a re-tooling) consists of Horvat, Holmstrom, Tsyplakov, Romanov, and Eiserman. I'd be down with Barzal, Dobson, and Sorokin continuing to be part of that list.
The ear would be open for everyone else.
