I have been to the last five home games. For one win and being outscored 16-5 in other four.
Waited five years to get back to see the Isles, and it's been a crushing disappointment.
We sat rinkside tonight and here are my largely clueless takes on what I saw.
I never felt like we could win after Flyers tied it. You could see the second period collapse unfolding as team fell apart.
Roy does not strike me as a good coach. He puts players in situations they are not suited for. Eg Cholowski on in the dying minutes after playing like a muppet all game. He should have been nowhere near the ice.
Cholowski was brutal. His second penalty was so dumb, Pulock had the puck and was moving ahead. Just brain dead play.
Sorokin was not good. He was not peppered with shots and made very few meaningful saves. Hogberg actually looked better when he played!
Dobson. Lord knows whats happened, he's collapsed under Roy. Plays like his heart is not in it. Also always puts his shots along the ice and the goalies know this. His shots rarely threaten this season.
I thought Pelech was okay. Pulock too. They weren't the problem. Pelech at least tried to create offensively, which isn't really his thing.
Barzal was Barzal. He can be so frustrating.
Nelson was apparently a healthy scratch. Again.
Bo pretty much had the game on his stick on the PK when he was in on goal and could have tied it up. He couldn't convert. He seems to do that a lot. At least he broke the PP drought but he still seems a bit underwhelming given the expectations for him.
Anders had no influence, even with the deflected goal. At least he's done well until last few games.
Pager same.
Palmieri had even less.
Duclair even less again.
Engvall same.
A few games ago Tsyplakov looked solid, but he's gone cold. He's capable of better than what we're seeing.
Casey tried without impacting.
Martin, I question what he now brings and why he's there. You barely see him in games, four minutes on ice, and he was lucky Ilya did make one of his good saves when Matt passed it straight across goals to a Flyers player. Martin's presence another question mark over Roy.
The entire fourth line offers nothing now. The fourth line used to hit hard and wear teams down.
There is none of that now, they just go through the motions and hope that's enough.
There is more talent in the team, albeit some of it aging, that what they are showing. And again that makes me think Roy doesn't have what it takes to get results.

Missed large portions of this game. I just have a few observations.

1. Garnet Hathaway scored a goal.
2. Garnet Hathaway scored a short handed goal.
3. Garnet Hathaway kills penalties for the Flyers and they have a better PK than the Isles.

I was lifting iron at Crunch fitness. Glad I missed this one. Saw the Tsyplakov hit though on replay. Looked like a clean hit to me. The guy is in a high scoring area why shouldn’t Tsyplakov take him out of the play? Hits him clearly shoulder on shoulder with no intention to injure and keeps playing. Flyer fans upset only because they saw the aftermath of a clean hit. Max is just a big player. But his clear intention was to minimize a scoring threat. What’s going on with this league? At least the refs got the call right.
 
This team has lost it's heart and it's grit.
Keep the guys who show that.....get rid of the rest (as reasonable fast as you can).

So...heart and grit - Romo and......and......ok, Lee, though his post game speeches" are killing me. Keep George and Holms who both despite their current skill levels, come to play and show both. Past that, get rid of them all, they all piss me off.

Lou....has neither and has run out of his most precious....time.

Of note...do we even have a fourth line anymore?.....i mean i see our 6th line out there a bit but....

Well, at least each of Nelson and Palms got a point. Need them to get as many as possible as the TrDline approaches.

Yes, I'm in that mode now.

Noah Dobson made me want to tear my friggin' hair out. The goal was a slow-moving car crash. Anders Lee busted his *** to improve NYI's stature on that play, and Dobson wasted that effort by continuing to back away. Like, wtf, man. If there's not something wrong with him physically, he's not a player you sign long term for big money. That's friggin' disgraceful.

The play also showed why you absolutely do NOT trade Anders Lee. He busted his friggin' ***. There's no slack in his game. It's going to take a 1 + a prospect, or a high level prospect + a pick for me. I'd rather have that kind of leadership that rebuilding teams usually lack.

In the end this is good. It's clarifying. NYI need to make some decisions. For me, I'd commit to keeping Lee (for at least next year), Barzal, Horvat, Holmstrom, and Romanov. Anyone else can go/be moved. Dobson? Idk, man. I really do not know.

Dobson is the best trade bait. I don’t think you can coach out what’s going on in this kids head.

The fat lady has sung folks. I’m going to work on my tennis game. At least there I can experience what it means to win and dominate.

I think Pulock is the better of the 2 and Pelech is overpaid.

Stated before but, If I am a team that can win the cup and can manage the cap, I an all over Lee.

JGP unfortunately has worn down. Don't think we find a taker without retention.
 
So Tysplakov facing a hearing.
Didn't see that when George copped his hit in the head. Which looked far more intentional.

100% no. People seriously overrate Lou here. I wanted snow gone from the moment he was hired, but I never thought Lou was a good solution. The solution was Trotz - Who made Lou look much better than he is by taking snow's roster to the semifinals.

Once Trotz left any real hope did as well.

Lou hasn't done anything but gum up the cap with average/overpriced vets while the team slowly (now rapidly) sinks into subpar mediocrity or worse...With no concrete/viable plan out (or no plan that Lou would ever sign up for).

Given where Lou has led this team a rebuild is probably necessary at this point. Fans can deny and/or complain about that all they want, but if you think this season is bad, wait until you see the next 3-5 year if Lou just resigns Nelson/Palmieri, everyone starts fading even worse, and there's no legit elite young talent to inject into the lineup.

Sometimes you need to just admit when a relationship isn't working and move on to save everyone time.
