Most of us who have followed hockey recognize a budding young superstar when we see one.
I'm not an Oiler's fan by any stretch but I am a hockey fan. McDavid is a very special young player who doesn't come along that often. As a hockey fan (rather than a fan of a particular team) you should enjoy watching him. Even if you may hate watching him play against your team you should still appreciate the skill that he brings.

Can say the exact same about Gaudreau but he gets far less respect and that's where the annoyance comes from. Im not arguing McDavid isn't a great player, I'm saying he gets putt on a pedastoll and can do no wrong and can never be criticized especially on here.

He gets far less respect because that's the way it should be, and will continue to be going forward.

People will compare because they are both on rival teams and also the annoyance by flames and other teams fans that McDavid will sneeze on the bench and TSN will run a one minute analyzation of it. Where as Gaudreau can go out and be a top 6 scorer and get far less respect. It is what it is and it won't change but McDavid will always be given the benefit of the doubt

Isn't that double standard exactly why we should stop comparing the two?

So basically you're upset because Gaudreau doesn't get the same media attention as McDavid? Jealousy isn't going to get Gaudreau signed any faster.

In a way I guess yes. Gaudreau will never be given a fair shake even if he puts up the same point totals over the next 5 years because of who McDavid is especially on here.

No, it's the fact McDavid can never be compared or be criticized like the previous poster was doing. There is no jealousy, we know the killer we have in Johnny, your team has witnessed it first hand

I think the pedestal that jhocks is on right now is pretty substantial. And you want him pushed even higher? The guy is trying to cash in now for good reason. There's so much pressure from fans to live up to being a mcdavid that it wouldn't surprise me to see him fail to love up to this hype. The guy had one good season and we've all seen one hit wonders in the past. Johnny may be the exception but wow flames fans aren't doing him any favors

Considering he isn't on the oilers I expect him to improve. Ya he looked awful in the World Cup, obviously going to regress. Nice try. And 143pts in 160 games is more than enough of a sample size. I feel this is a comparison to eberle which I find hilarious. Hopefully eberle learned how to track back in the off season

Spin it any way you want, this is a comparable. Bud.

Panarin's play also contributed to Kane's Hart winning season as well...without Panarin on his line, does Kane win the Hart? Give some credit where it's due.

Panarin could definately demand, and probably get, more on the market..but I'm sure he's aware of the Blackhwaks cap situation, which is always pretty tight, loves playing there, and is starting in a place that will allow him to get paid well, but won't handcuff his team.

Johnny Hockey, wants to get paid it seems...team be damned.

He would in no way command more but nice try. Panafon ever wants to be actually compared to Gaudreau he needs to go be the main man on another team until then there is no discussion

The reason Gaudreau is compared to McDavid is they are two of the most exciting young offensive players to watch.

No reason to pit them against each other unless the Flames are playing the Oilers. They're both superstars who should make roughly the same amount of money with McDavid earning a bit more because he's more important to the Oilers.

That's textbook jealousy. That's exactly what it is.

But again, none of these diversions have any impact on Gaudreau's contract negotiations. He should be on the ice, working with his teammates right now.

That and he is also the better player. We are comparing a 19 year old centre to a 23 year old winger. It's cute how Flames fans are going out of their way to try and prove it, even using the WC to prove that Gaudreau is equal to or even better than Mcdavid but if an Oilers fan used the World Cup to further prove why Draisaitl is better than Bennett, I'm sure then the tourney would only become a "sample size"

Did Bennett play with Draisaitl at the World Cup? :shakehead

Nobody is trying to say Gaudreau is better than McDavid, they don't have to because over the 6 games Gaudreau showed hockey fans around the world just how talented he is, McDavis showed flashes but not the dominance the next one should. the arguments start when Oiler fans chime in saying McDavid was the best player for team NA, ridiculous statements.

Gaudreau had 5g-9pts, McDavid had 3 assists over 6 games.

Imagine the point totals had Gaudreau been spoon fed 1st line minutes and the extra 8 minutes of PP time McDavid got.
