Let me guess, you think men should look like hulk hogan and women can't wear anything but dresses?

You're stuck in a different time

Now you guys are going to scold me, for missing and loving old time hockey?

So you must hate these legends then?

Typical reaction from anyone upset over anything critical of Gaudreau/Flames

Let's bring up the Oilers.

CP is the forum you're looking for btw

FTR, I don't think Gaudreau "hates" playing in Calgary but would probably ideally wants to be closer to NY area. I think he'll play for the Flames if they give him the dollars that he's asking for

Yeah, painfully predictable.

"Uh...you dont want to blow smoke with us?? Derp Oilerz"

Expecting him to sign for anything less than 8 years at 7m per is absurd.

In no universe are they tough, unless you are referring to their durability, in that case Jay Bouwmeester is a tough guy too.
J.Bow has not taken the punishment the twins have throughout their careers.
There are a lot of tough guys, who are tough because of the beat downs they endure, and keep moving forward, without *****ing and complaining. Disagree?

He's not a Flames fan. Not even close lol

Fully aware. But it's a pretty typical reaction in this thread

Anything not pro Gaudreau or Flames leads to bringing up the Oilers

Again CP is another forum

Marchand's new contract has an AAV of 6.1 million. Pretty good comparable to Gaudreau...is he worth 2 million more than a Marchand?

How is that comparable at all? They play totally different styles of game. Gaudreau hit over 60 points his first year in the league, Marchand only broke 60 points just last season.

How is Marchand comparable to Gaudreau? Marchand is a .64 PPG vs Gaudreau's .89 PPG and Gaurdreau is still improving.

You can't just pick an inferior player as your comp because you want the same kind of deal...

Wait, and Marchand hasn't been improving????

Let's look at the stat lines for last year shall we:

Gaudreau:

https://www.nhl.com/player/johnny-gaudreau-8476346

Marchand:

https://www.nhl.com/player/brad-marchand-8473419

A few points.

Last year Marchand,

1. Scored more goals than Gaudreau
2. Had a better plus minus than Gaudreau
3. Scored the same amount of power play goals as Gaudreau
4. Scored the same amount of game winning goals as Gaudreau
5. Scored more short handed goals,
6. Had a better shooting % than Gaudreau

OH, and he has scored 20+ goals is 5 of his last six seasons, AND is a Stanley Cup champion. Overall he is a more proven player than Gaudreau.

So, yes, I think they are comparable. If anything Marchand is the one who should have been holding out for 8 million per.

But yeah, Marchand in an inferior player...right.

you forgot the most important thing...age
Gaureau is 23 and not reached his peak while Marchand is 28 and in his peak right now

Gaudreau scored 78 points in his second year in the NHL at 22
Marchand scored 41 points at 22 in the NHL

safe to assume Gaudreau will continue to put up that many points and more while getting better...while Marchand will likely regress in a few years

He should get 8 per, he's electrifying and puts butts in seats. If he's not worth 8 per right now, he will be soon and if he's as good as he's projecting, he may be worth more than that.

Marchand signed this extension coming off of a career season he is almost certainly never again going to replicate. In that season, he still wasn't a better player than Gaudreau, who is just getting started.

Marchand also clearly signed for below whatever his UFA price would have been.

Marchand brings also a different element with his style. He is a disturbing influence on the ice, in a good way. Gaudreau will probably out point Marchand, so I think they should be paid similar with a slight edge to Gaudreau, perhaps 500k.

Conveniently age was not part of the comparison.

+/-?!!! Seriously? Hold on guys I gotta call Treliving and tell him he's got more leverage now.

So a 22 year old with ONE good year under his belt is warranted 8M/8 year contract???

Why would the Flames do that??? Why would ANY team do that??? Why wouldn't they want Johnny "Hockey" to prove himself over a few more seasons before giving him his monster deal???

Fine...take the +/- out...

Oh, and I noticed that you conveniently didn't comment on all of the other stats...

...Have you seen how many other young players have taken max length contracts with "one good year". I guess his Calder finalist year doesn't count eh.

And sure I'll comment. Gaudreau has more assists than Marchand. Has more points than Marchand. While being 5 years younger.

With your logic you should make a proposal Marchand for Gaudreau, everyone should be in agreement with you!

You realize you are using numbers form Marchand's career season last year that far exceeded anything he has done during the course of his career?

I agree much different styles. Marchand's deal is a steal for Boston but given Gaudreau's 5 years younger he's prob going to make more than that.
