There's a stigma about smaller players and them getting hurt easier. Why did Gaudreau never get in the NCAA? In fact I don't recall him missing anytime due to injury. Big players get hurt all the time, Lindros being the prime example. Cam Neely is another guy who played a physical game and had his career cut short due to playng style, his size didn't help him unfortunately. I'd even go so far as to say Gaudreau might be less prone to injury because he's less involved in the physical aspect of hockey. With the advancements in concussions, we've seen stars like Crosby and Bergeron rebound after suffering from severe recurring ones. The fact that Gaudreau has virtually no injury history should logically suggest that he's a durable player.
Physics.
You act like he is never going to get caught. How many times, do you think a small framed player like him, can take this kind of treatment : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMtkur4bEAw If he was bigger, I doubt he gets that kind of whiplash from that hit. He barely drilled him there.
