I expect him to have a great career based off what I've seen, but his frame will feel the punishment more than most (I would suspect).

Would completely understand him wanting to cash in. 7x8 would be a fantastic bet for the flames organization.

Why are people still bringing up his scoring on the road?

22 years old, 2nd year player, why is anyone shocked that he has growing pains? Did anyone expect he would break 80-90pts last year?

He will figure it out and join the games upper elite.

2022 Cup to Calgary
Why are people still bringing up his scoring on the road?

More importantly, why are people bringing up his scoring on the road without bringing up that he led the NHL in home points.

More home points than Kane, than Crosby, than Benn. While actually playing less home minutes than those three.

 Iginla, Nieuwendyk, MacInnis, Gilmour, Mullen, Suter.... probably not

uh...

Suter/Mullen over Loob/Fleury/Giordano/Kiprusoff? :(

8 million is not that unreasonable....I don't know why their is even a kerfuffle about this........it is certainly in the ball park of what he should get.

He's worth 7-7.5 and I reckon that's where he ends up.

Elite/franchise winger who is dynamic in attack. Has improved every year throughout his career and I don't think he's hit his ceiling yet. Could very well end up being a perennial top 5 scorer.

How many ppg players are in the NHL now? Not many. Just give the guy 7,5ish*8 and get it done. Deserves it.

Today's NHL is way better. Gaudreau's skill puts him ahead of those guys imo, especially in the coming years of his prime

Ahead of Iginla? Gaudreau has skill, but I don't think he'll come close to Iginla.

I'm betting that Gaudreau wants to end up in the $8 million range and has already come down to that amount. He probably started negotiations in the $9-10 million and has dropped while the Flames have only increased slightly. I bet you that Calgary wants him around Monahan's level but Gaudreau wants to get paid now.

He's on that level, whether or not he can be that durable is the question.

Iggy was a fantastic player, probably the best the Flames have ever had and definitely my favorite hockey player of all time. Having said that, I don't think it's unreasonable to say Johnny could be better. Watching Johnny at BU from his second season onwards, he just has that x-factor. It's not your typical "oh this guy could be an elite player" x-factor, it's something else. His skill is just out of control. Monahan is a top young C and to be fair, had an average year, and still scored 63pts.....does he do that without Johnny? Maybe. Watching the two day in day out, you can see the disparity in skill. He's on another level.

JG comes in first season and despite the skill/tempo/physicality jump from college, scores 64 points. Year two, he ups it and goes ~PPG. It took Iggy 6 seasons to get > PPG(albeit a younger starter) and he was a scoring forward who, IMO, was more inclined to put up big points through his role. Johnny can do that too, generate points solo, but that's not his game, he's a playmaker. Perhaps I am wrong, but reading player capability like a racing form guide, everything indicates JG's trend is up. He went from 44 to 51 to 80pts in college as he adjusted. I think he'll do the same in the NHL. I'd bet the house he scores 80+ points this season. If Monahan has a good year, who knows. If Tkachuk/Bennett/whoever become a reasonable second line, then geez...anything could happen. I don't think there was a team more single-line centric then the Flames last year.

Maybe the homer glasses are on, maybe it's just optimism, but I think the kid can be the best Flames player ever. He's not far off now and he's just getting started.

The teams from Alberta are ****ing stacked. McDavid...potentially the best player of this gen, Johnny, Drai, Monahan, Pulju, Bennett, Klefbom(who has a shot at ending up as #1 IMO), Brodie, Chucky...good times ahead. BoA is gonna be sick.

It's not homer goggles, that's how I feel to. He's special, he does have that "it" factor. Honestly he'll get close to or break 90pts this year. I actually think Monahan will have his career best year this season as well. Then I think Bennett will take off and they will post similar point totals.
