I'm very good at reading between the lines and this just SCREAMS that he wants out of Calgary. Why would you put negotiations on hold for this type of event?

Because he wants to get as much money for his services as possible, and the Flames would like to pay as little as possible?

Desharnais, Fucale and a 2nd.

Why do people think this is him wanting out of Calgary? Maybe he's just making this clear now so the two can come to an agreement earlier (Calgary's side caving to his demands).

Add Alex Galchenyuk and your first round pick to that, to get the talks started.

I thought he and Monahan were willing to take less? to give the Gm better chance to build a winner.
If that was true I don't understand why they aren't signed yet.

Why does it matter?

If holding out helps the Treliving get a better deal, who cares?

Are Kings fans upset with Lombardi for playing hardball with Doughty after his ELC? It most certainly got the team a better deal.

I'm not sure that's actually true. Reportedly Lombardi didn't want to go above Kopitar's 6.8, and Doughty wanted 7, which he got. Though I think word was Doughty wanted less years. I don't think playing hardball works out for the GMs much when it comes to star players. The players know how valuable they are, and that the team can't afford to have them not playing.

Though it depends on how far apart they are. I get that Lombardi wanted to create a salary structure based around Kopitar and Doughty making 6.8 as the star players and everyone else making less in accordance to value, but realistically 7 million was so close that it wasn't worth a potential holdout. I haven't heard anything about where the sides are with regards to Gaudreau.

Guess he is represented by an agency that likes to take the negotiations deep. I can see why you do it with a guy who basically at a no doubt (NHL role wise) point during negotiations.

I don't understand how reading an article confirming Gaudreau's participation in the World Cup without a contract leads to trade talk.
There's absolutely nothing in the article suggesting anything of that sort.
