Wasn't it obvious after the 2011 draft lottery when it was determined the Flames would hold the 104th pick in the draft? The look on his face when the camera panned over... it was obvious he was devastated.

Gaudreau didn´t even attend the draft, because he thought that nobody would draft him because he´s too small.

It's still august. He should sign with them sooner rather than later. I just wonder how long he's willing to stay. The flames should get 6 yrs at min but should push for the max term. With monohan he isn't as imoorland with a better player in bennett on the team. They should give Gaudreau 7x7 and monohan 6x6

I think Gaudreau gets more than 7x7. I think he gets $8.5M x 7

Thats a lot of money but the flames should still do it. They need Gaudreau. He will always be there best offensive player. 8.5 might be a bit much right now but in 2 year if Gaudreau can improve more.or show that he is a ppg level player consistently than he will be worth it.

A deal will get done. Sometimes there are little stupid stipulations in contracts. I heard a rumor that Mohanan and GODreau wanted to sign together, and I got the impression they liked the Kane/Toews thing where they get similar contracts.

I have a feeling this is the issue. Mohanan wants to be over paid to have a similar contract to Godreau, and they've made it clear to their agents they want to stay together.

I bet it's about finding a balance between the players, their agents, and the team going forward.

My only concern would be him getting injured in the WHC, without a contract. Hopefully he plays well, is unscathed, and signs shortly after for you guys.

Yes, I know there is insurance for such things, but it still wouldn't cover what he could stand to lose if things went real bad.

If I was Treliving, JG would be #1 priority by a country mile. Sign him for 8 years at 6.5-7.5 mil. Monahan and Newport will be look for a similar deal but id seriously hardball them even if it meant a holdout that lasts into camp. Ill bet theyd come crawling back and accept 5.5 or 6. He seems pretty loyal and knows JG really helps his numbers

JG on the other hand seems a bit more ready to get a big deal or maybe even leave in 3-4 years. So you want to appease him and lock him up long term

That way you save almost 2 mil per year.

I know he is small but how exactly do they lose him.

They can't really. Unless another team offer sheets him. And given the amount that would be on the offer sheet, the Flames would be getting 4 1sts back.

Gaudreau would be incredibly irresponsible going to the WCH without a contract. I can't see it happening. The insurance he purchased will be for a few million dollars, max. It will not be equivalent to the insurance of a guaranteed 50+ million dollar contract. He's not offer sheet eligible, so he has zero leverage here.

If he gets a career ending injury, that's it.

What NHL player was the last with a career ending injury?

So how come the media isn't jumping all over Flames management the way they did with Barrie and the Avs. This guy is more of a shoe-in to get a huge contract so what is there to discuss. For everyone that has any frame of media to throw Joe Sakic and the Avalanche management team under the bus for the way they negotiated with Barrie was absolutely ludacris, never mind Monahan who is even more of a no brainer.

It all started with this twit Freidman anyways, spouting off how he KNEW Barrie was going to get traded.

Go Avs Go

Gaudreau can't be offersheeted due to a lack of games played I believe.
