I literally wanted to do this.

I know. And while I think they made mistakes with the original hire, I agree he'd be a great fit for the offense as constructed.

(To not you: Everyone knows it's not happening and why. He's just a great fit for their personnel.)

I would guess they probably just promote from within. If not, Frank Reich. I don't want Reich, but it's not like it would be Bobby Slowik bad. Someone said Martin Frank mentioned Slowik in a story. That's the Hakstol of Offensive Coordinators.
That's not giving me warm fuzzies.

Right but they're signing contracts. They're not just getting a job like I have. Players aren't allowed to just go somewhere else. Sure they can hold out and leverage their hand, but they're still under contract and their team still has to trade them.

I've said if before, I'm not trying to stop people from getting promotions, and I know this makes me sound like the asshole. But there has to be SOME brakes pumped here. There just has to be a way to encourage some continuity that's reasonable for everyone involved here. Allow coaches opt out clauses? Adopt a 10/5 rights status like the MLB? That's actually not a bad idea. 10/5 is too long, maybe like...5/3? Idk I'm just spitballing. I don't have answers.

What you DON'T want is just being like "oh well you have to coach out your contract" because then every coach contract is going to be one year. We can't have stuff that's easily exploitable.

I can’t imagine they’re investing into some of these coaches especially positional & otherwise lower on the totem pole coaches beyond a short term basis. So it works the other way for the owners/organization too where they can fire these guys with little to no cost.

So I seriously doubt there’s appetite for change on either end for those actually inside the business.

I’ve always wondered the inner workings of an NFL team and if they are pretty uniform throughout the league. Let’s same I am an NFL quarterback. Am I spending most my time with the qb coach and his assistants? Where does the passing game coordinator fit in? Is he coaching me and the WR’s? Then there is the OC. What is he doing if he isn’t a play caller and what are my interactions with him? And what about the head coach? Assistant head coaches? Should I be looking at assistants as lackeys or is it a type of cronyism? Do I have any interaction with the DB or DL coach or the DC or are they just guys I’m nodding to as I pass in the hallway? Or is the DB coach teaching me about defensive backs?

And if a head coach isn’t a play caller, what exactly is he doing that that the OC and DC aren’t? I would assume he’s more of a helmsman and making sure everyone is on the same page? And if you aren’t a top play caller in the league isn’t it a bit like the sword of Damocles hanging over you to have that responsibility?

I don’t think the coaching title’s are as rigid actually inside the operation as they may appear from the outside. I think in some cases they’re there just for appearances sake as well as to justify a wage increase.

Like you don’t have to be a play caller to be heavily involved & have really valued input in the game planning leading up to the game.

Someone say Chip?
