Funny to hear talk about the Canada goalie crisis when 3 of the top 5 save percentages this year are Cdn goalies... and 8 options better than the trio we chose...

Even Binnington's backup has better stats than him - bizarre

At the very least Adin Hill should have been the starter
It is less bizarre when you know Doug “Doogie” Armstrong is TC GM. It is bloody political BS Sin Binner is the goalie. He clearly does not deserve this, not even close. If Canada loses, Not great but I won’t feel disappointed much.

Cooper's post game interview yesterday was a bit telling to me. When asked about Sam Reinhart he was very deliberate in praising how Sam puts up big points but he "does not cheat the game to do it". He said its rare to see a player who got 57 goals last season (with 10 more in the playoffs) and has 31 goals this season but is a very good defensive forward still. I think one of the points of emphasis on constructing this forward group was elite superstars + skilled two way forwards, as well as a few role players. They didn't take one dimensional scoring forwards.

I have also been impressed with how hard McDavid and MacKinnon have come back to support defense.

Per an ESPN article on best ever American goalies, the book on scoring on Hellebuyck is essentially "if he sees it, he will save it." I think it was Quick who said that's what they said in the pre-game video meetings about him.

I'm guessing that JoMo doesn't have a whole lot more to add.
Meanwhile, the current scouting report on Binnington is "if you shoot it at him and he sees it he'll probably save it, so try to shoot the puck where he isn't. That's his big weakness."

This reminds me of beer league hockey where people bring in the ringers for the finals lol
How did they do it though? They still have 6 d-men, is he replacing the potential loss of 2 forwards? Are the U.S just trying to hide Adam Fox for the final game?

Based on the goals I've seen that he's let in, Bennington is just as likely to let one in if you shoot it at him as not. They're going under his arms, under his stick, etc. Basically going through him

If Trump attends the final game, I suggest we declare Binnington to be our Border Czar out of spite.

Neat for Hughes, honestly. I don't root for the U.S. team, but having one of the best players in the league join the team for the final feels very sports-movie-esque.

Yeah, Connor needs to learn something from these games. His performance is considerably more worrisome than Hellebuyck's play (since he has already shown in the past that he can perform in a short tourney with the U.S. team). I've liked Connor's play this season, since he has looked much more like when he played with PLD, but we can't have one of the team's best players go missing as soon as the tempo picks up and the space gets limited.

But KC has performed well for us in the PO, even when most of the rest of the team has not. I'm not worried.

It will be interesting to see what “adjustments” Cooper and the other coaches for Canada make going into the rematch. Obviously the US did a phenomenal job of locking that game down very tightly. Canada did the same to the US too. My guess is we will see Canada do more chip and chase. I also expect them to try to get more multi layered screens with point shots. They need to take away Helle’s vision. Look for low to high plays with lots of bodies in between the shooter and the net.

I found that USA did a good job keeping the shots away from the high danger areas, which is what Helle is used to because the Jets do that too
