So extreme but I have to agree. I'd make Nelson and Bailey available at the deadline WITHOUT A DOUBT. I think Bailey could net a 1st, Nelson probably a 2nd.

JT is a tougher call but if the playoffs are out the question I wonder if he would accept a trade for the sake of improving the team only to sign with us later.... it's not like guys traded at the deadline have never gone back to their team.

Snow has been much better in the second half of the 1st round, I have no confidence in him making a pick in the 4-10 range, none. Pulock, Barzal, Ho-Sang and Beauvillier were all in the second half of the 1st round. If we could stockpile picks, we'll have a few shots at hitting a home run.
This team needs something extreme to be done. We’ve been on a steady decline since the ‘14-‘15 season (no, the team that beat Florida was not better), and this season has been an absolute failure considering the magnitude of it. Snow’s 12 year rebuild needs to end.

I’d sell on everyone, including JT. Pick up another 2 1st rounders in the process, and bring in a new GM with real scouts. Draft a bunch of players in the first round and try to sign Tavares while he’s on the free market. We could retool this whole team without the stench of Snow in one offseason.

I'm with you.

Despite our record of late, we're not a total disaster... But we're obviously not a championship contender either, so we may as well start selling our UFAs and getting set up for next season.

JT can stay or go.. but if he's not willing to commit to staying, then he should go..

Even if we get picks back for JT, Bailey et al, they can be used as currency to acquire pieces from other sellers in the off-season. But we cannot let 40-90 point scoring UFAs walk for nothing.

This isn't a group of coaches and players that has shown the league that they're worthy of the organization pushing all their chips in the middle for and making a run at it this season.. so my advice would be to begin making immediate preparations for next season..

He gave up a first rounder to stop them from taking anyone, we can't look at that as a 1 for 1 type of protection because it wasn't.

I understand your point, but who else was Vegas going to take of value but Bailey or Pulock (and he should've been protected).

So while not a definite, it's rather certain the Bailey would've been the Vegas pick.

i would give tavares one more week. if he doesnt re-sign, i trade him for the best possible return.
he kept saying that he wants to be an islander....but didnt re-sign on july first.....
ok, so now maybe its because he wants to know the new arena situation. well, thats pretty much a done deal......
what can he be waiting on now? the new salary cap? so he can bleed the team dry?

( and lets not pretend that the little skirt that he is engaged to wont have a bit to say about it. )

A post that is both stupid AND misogynist, well done:clap:

I genuinely enjoyed Ichabods 2 cents, especially the skirt part, to each his own.

He does have a valid point though, if Tavares is so committed to the Isles, what is the hold up? (rhetorically speaking)

Snow has already stated he is not trading Tavares so it makes the discussion futile. This team is neither here nor there, writing off a high priced rental is essentially an acknowledgement that this team is not anywhere close to being "over the top". His approach is comically stubborn, standing pat while trying to send a message we are committed to winning?

The Islanders are a snack, a chance for any contender to sharpen their teeth for the second round, assuming they even clinch a playoff spot, anyone who believes otherwise is delusional. I don't understand what the team gains by keeping Bailey and Hickey . You could probably get a 1st and 3rd for those two, hardly worth scoffing at in the 2018 draft we are hearing so much about.

It seems like Snow would rather see it through with this roster and hide behind the guise of being competitive when we get slaughtered in a 1st round then actually recoup some assets and retool this off season.

As a heartbroken Whalers fan I can say Ed Johnson was far worse than either of them. He is THE guy who killed my Whalers.
Was it Emile Francis who passed over Lafontaine and Yzerman for Sylvain Turgeon? That certainly didn't help the franchise.

Yep that's certainly didnt help. But I remember reading somewhere, at the time of the draft (in 1983), Sylvain Turgeon was considered the next Bobby Hull! That didnt happen. But he had started his career well though.

The Rangers holding their organization accountable for missing the playoffs for ONE year speaks volumes on how a professional organization is supposed to be run. Ledecky is always around the arena, talking to fans, looking for input from fans..has even made real change based on fan feedback (going back to NVMC for a brief period). We need to all start letting him know when we see him that we are not being run like a "world class organization" (in his own words). There is no accountability. Why are our friends across the river being run better than us? It starts with Snow. Ledecky is losing the fan base by giving us the same crap we've had from the last 4 owners..

I wouldn't say they're holding the organization accountable, rather they are being introspective and honest with themselves from a management standpoint. I wish our FO (specifically ownership) would do the same in the regard.

On the list of things that killed the team that's near the bottom. He also salvaged that pick years later by trading him to the Devils for Pat Verbeek who was close to a HOF level player (Ed Johnson actually pulled the trigger but IIRC the Cat laid the groundwork for The trade).

Ledecky may be playing it up that way to the crowd but this move is being driven by BSE and Governor Cuomo. Going back to NVMC is not Ledecky's first choice.

De Haan, since he wasn't on the protected list ;) If Bailey were exposed I don't think he would've been selected, I think they would've gone after a younger guy instead. Can't remember who exactly was available though. Was Nelson?

Yeah - That would be amazing if the Isles did that. I mean it takes a real piece of Samsonite to look at the Isles front office/snow and say, "Oh yeah...This is humming along nicely."

Well we're on the verge of losing Bailey and de Haan so we're just splitting hairs at this point. I'd rather have the 2017 first back, Bailey/De Haan gone and then trade the other for a 2018 pick.

For any confused, maybe naive or younger fans, when interested in understanding the Islanders, watch what they do. Actions matter. Words are useless for the most part. Snow wont do much? Cashman makes more in season adjustments in one year than snow did in 12. Thats nothing new. Tavares wants to be here very badly but he wont sign now and he wants to hear other offers? The man had enough of this BS and who could blame him. Maybe he doesnt want to be the Tony Gwynn of hockey. Ledecky is running the team and Wang is a silent partner? HAHA if you belive that ...than wow...just wow. Any 12 year old islander fan can be a GM this isnt like finding a medical doctor where complicated things are involved. Snow is not some genius that cant be replaced.

The most frustrating thing about this team is it's total lack of guts. You can blame the poor defense on talent, the GM for not building a good enough D core and the coaching staff for implementing an asinine system. But where is the pride? 3 goals down in the 1st period and those boards aren't shaking? Did everyone on this team forget how to play the body? They're like corpses out there

Also, they lose this game tonight.... I'm 100 percent invested in amateur hockey and the draft for the rest of the season. This team isn't worth getting agita over.
