Yeah it's really frustrating. Unfortunately, I just really love to play hockey video games and the group of friends I've made over the years.
it sucks when you have no other options.

I was lucky in that I fell in love with Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven back in 2006 and played that franchise for over a decade before it finally went to crap in the past couple years. It was always better than FIFA, but didn't sell nearly as well because FIFA kept buying up the licenses. Pro Evo would have fake names and fake jerseys, but people would create all teh proper kits and names and make it easy for others to download them. So you would get all the real names/teams while also having much better game play than FIFA.

Trying to get the hang o NHL 24. It's a shit-show of a game so far. The pressure system is predictably broken af, menus crash randomly, inviting players to your game was made much more cumbersome, and the skill floor has dropped significantly. They made some of the most intricate dekes possible with a single button.

Though there are some aspects of the gameplay I like so far, it's mostly just another shit show game by the king of shit shows that is EA.

I haven't played an NHL game regularly in an incredibly long time (maybe 10 years?) but I always found the "dekes" were so ridiculous whenever I would play that it ruined the games for me. There have always been exploits in the NHL games but it also reached absurd levels in the few times I played that I just bailed altogether. If I were to pick them back up again they'd either need to simplify the gameplay or I'd just play against the ai. Playing against some twelve year old who is able to spin-o-rama four times at center ice, dump it off the corner glass, and the puck banks in off the goalie's skate every time just isn't enjoyable for me.

I'm sure it's gotten better (and now sounds like worse again) over time but they really lost me back then. Also, their failure to release a PC version is just so absurd.

Since it's October and I'm done with Starfield, I thought that it'd be fun to finally play Alien: Isolation.

This isn't "fun." :cry::help:

I think this final point you made is very telling. I don’t get EA’s blatant refusal to put hockey on the PC.

My guess is that they know modders will make their game 10x better and they don’t want to admit that 1. Their game is horrendously broken, and 2. It can be fairly easily exposed/improved by people with even a basic understanding of coding.

That's what I've always read, in combination with the sales for PC being poor. The funny thing is that I never played NHL games on PC before but as I've gotten older I've stopped buying consoles and stick to the PC. Quite a few of my friends who aren't hockey fans would play and have specifically asked me about PC hockey games but since they don't exist the NHL is missing out on grabbing some new fans too.

Maybe EA feels shame with all their negative reviews on Steam for Madden and Fifa. The more realistic style sports games aren't ever that fun anyway IMO. They always have completely broken AI and some glitchy play that works almost all the time that people abuse the hell out of. At least go all in at that point and make something more arcade-y.

I did enjoy Tape to Tape if you want a PC hockey game though. It's definitely very arcade-y but it's a lot of fun.

I'm about half way through Alan Wake (I think). The Remedy-ness of it is cool. The mind-bendy story, atmosphere, etc., but the gameplay is brutal. I've contemplated dropping it a few times, but now I'm pot committed. I realize it's a 13 year old game now and Control was fun to play, so hopefully Alan Wake 2 is better.

I also have a few hours into NeiR Replicant. So far it's been nothing but fetch quests. Not sure if it's worth it to keep going.

Alan Wake is like that all the way through. Rotten.

After getting an amazing and almost unprecedented three months of near daily play out of Tears of the Kingdom*, I picked up Three Houses on a lark and based on some strong recs.

Loving the Miyazaki-inspired anime style and the story which has so many more layers and loving the comfy, it reminds me of Suikoden 3, and I mean that as a very high compliment. I’m not huge on all the menus but the soundtrack and character interactions are amazing.

I haven’t played a tactical RPG since Final Fantasy Tactics but you pick it up quick but one thing I gotta ask…

Does Byleth just steamroll everyone and everything, the whole game? I went in and picked Dimitri’s house - kinda blind and there’s some hitters but Eazy B just rolls over everyone even at level 10.

* - Single and no kids I think, that’s how.

My son really enjoys watching me play games on the Switch, so my playing habits are rotating between F Zero 99, Curious Expedition, TotK, and Mario Kart 64.

Being a dad is really difficult.

My 3-year old loves watching me play Pokemon.

It's a hard life, but someone has to do it.

Just beat Hogwarts Legacy. Overall i think it was a good game not a great game.

Story/ writing was pretty bad. It loses a couple points because of it and think its the games biggest flaw.

Atmosphere, music, graphics all top notch, Combat was pretty fun as well got a bit repetitive towards the end.

All in all id give it between a 6-7 outta 10. It would be a 8-9 outta 10 if it had better writing.

Thinking doing my first play through of Elden Ring next.

I'm about 10 hours into Sea of Stars and I'm really enjoying it so far. I feel like it has the right balance of everything between the seriousness and humor within the story, just enough to focus on during turn based combat so it doesn't feel like a drag but not overwhelming, no grinding to have to become powerful enough for the next boss, etc.

It was mine too. Stay with it dude it’s really hard but as soon as you get the combat flow you get better and better. It’s so worth it. One of the best games I’ve played the last 10 years.
