It was mine too. Stay with it dude it’s really hard but as soon as you get the combat flow you get better and better. It’s so worth it. One of the best games I’ve played the last 10 years.
What class did you choose?

I started with astrologer but heard it can be kinda boring and the starting spells are the same ones you will more then likely use the entire playthrough. Switched to confessor because i heard they have a bunch of incantations that involve draconic powers which sounds dope to me.

Just started up my first play through of Elden Ring. Pretty stoked for it but also a little nervous as its my first FromSoftware game.
I'll echo to stick with it.

A couple of years ago, Bloodborne was my first FromSoft game and it took me hours to get by the first little section of the first area. Almost quit so many times, but now I'm 5 FromSoft games deep.

Starting class really doesn't matter. You can put points into whatever you want after playing it some. There's also a consumable item that let's completely re-spec pretty early on in the game. I think after the second main story boss.

Thinking Faith/ Arcane. I wanna dabble in those draconic incantations.
Go with Faith and Strength your first time around. Personally it’s more fun playing mostly as a melee build but to each their own.

1) Level your vigor: It should be in the 40-60 range when it’s all said and done

2) Choose the attributes you want to focus on and stick with them: If you’re a faith build don’t waste attributed in arcane or intelligence for example

3) You’ll end up playing this game more than once so don’t worry about missing side quests or NPC’s

Spiderman 2, It's a great game, but that shouldn't be a surprise because insomniac is the best in the world at what they do.

That being said I am having trouble with getting part 2 of The Flame side quest to trigger.

I installed

Dark Souls 3 DLC
Outer Wilds
Disco Elysium

I've heard nothing but glowing things about all 3. I know what I'm getting into with DS3 DLC and have no doubts I'll love it. The other 2? I'm usually not big on games without good gameplay, but I want to give them an honest chance.

I still haven't been able to go far in Outer Wilds due to the clunkiness.

However, Disco Elysium is fantastic. It plays like a table top RPG with outstanding writing. I can't say enough good things about that game.

I'm 5 hours or so into Baldurs Gate 3 and enjoying it so far. I really like the higher production value and more cinematic cutscenes but there have been bugs when playing co-op and I think I prefer the gameplay mechanics of Divinity: OS 2.

Looking forward to continuing the game and starting Alan Wake 2 tomorrow night.

I ended up starting Disco last night. I wouldn't say I fully understand the game's systems yet, but it was a never ending string of "Wait...what's that over there?" Played longer than I anticipated.

After Fire Emblem (see the review thread), I’m running Kart 8: Deluxe and Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers in platoon. Between them and NG+ on Emblem I should be able to be kept busy til at least Christmas.

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe:

+:
- Endless replayability.
- Fun and easy to pick up.
- A whole whack ton of courses.
- Mount Wario, Baby Park and Big Blue.

-:
- I had this game on the WiiU and bought it for the Switch…I then have to pay $25 for a ‘booster pack’ to get access to the new courses? What kind of shit is that, because it’s certainly not ‘Deluxe’.
- Blue shell spam, lightning spam, that idiot ghost stealing my items, I hate it all.
- There’s what, four(?) Rainbow Roads? You need like two at most.
- Outside of Athens, Vancouver, Amsterdam, Bangkok and Tokyo I’m not super impressed with the ‘tour’ courses.

Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers:

+:
- An old school classic.
- Love having fast forward and slow down right off the hop. Speeding up random battles is a lifesaver.
- On-screen and therefore avoidable enemies and a tight, unique battle system.
- Name me a game with a better artwork and score combo*. Even the opening video (here) is soul and a half.
- Definitely plays better on a Switch Pro than a PS2 controller.
- I have a lot of nostalgia for this game.

-:
- I may play Radical Dreamers afterwards…and I may not.
- Mainly the same complaints with the original; too many characters who don’t do anything and you won’t use in battle. A borderline incomprehensible mushroom trip of a story that I still after like 20 NG+ runs back in the day only understand 75% of. Serge in short order becomes strong enough to solo the game. It’s definitely on the ‘easier and shorter’ side compared to other golden age JRPGs.
- I feel like graphically they could have upped their game a little but this may have taken the charm out of the artwork.

*: RDR2 has a better score, but lesser artwork even if it is gorgeous. Ghost of Tsushima has better artwork and a great score that’s two tiers below CC’s score.

Voodoo Child’s top-5 Chrono Cross tracks (there’s another at least ten up for consideration).

5: Another World (Overworld)
4: The Girl who Stole the Stars
3: Scars of Time
2: Le Tresor Interdit
1: Prisoners of Fate

Hm: Dragon God, Fates, Tower of Stars, Viper Manor

I grabbed the Dead Space remake while it was on sale for the Steam Halloween sale. Only like 40 minutes in but it's really fun so far. I always wanted to try it but I remember running into some weird bug where a door wouldn't open. I tried looking it up and it seemed like an uncommon bug that some people got and nobody ever found a fix to so I never got to play it.

Here's my chance to play it now though! It's pretty fun. I know it's kind of Dead Space's gimmick but it's fun having to shoot off limbs to kill the enemies, it's a nice change of pace. The horror aspect is great as well.

What's great is how important a role your mind plays - the various "voices" in your head are basically NPCs in their own right.

I loved DOS2 and really looking forward to BG3.

In what way would you say the gameplay mechanics are different?

I was mostly referring to the combat. Action points are gone and replaced by a system where each character gets 1 action and 1 bonus action per turn along with some movement. Spells are balanced by needing charges which you have only a few of (at the beginning at least) and some need to be recharged by resting at your camp between uses. I like some of the generic bonus actions that give you more options (jumping, shoving, etc.) but overall I prefer the old system.
