EK is perceptive, I'm fairly sure he knew before even putting on skates that his value to this team at this time would not necessarily be measured in points. Historical precedence shows that he is not afraid to move the PP around just due to his own wandering. EK is a maverick and he will take the ice that's offered him which, frankly, is not something that was always present in previous configurations.

Imagine we kept Petry.
Watched Petry this weekend with Detroit and he looked like a completely different player. Maybe it's sully bringing out the worst with the roster for the past 5 years???? Take a look at the players who have flourished after they left coach stubborn.

Petry wasn't bad for the Penguins.

It was more that he wasn't the best overall fit. With an aging core, the Pens needed more pace and creativity out of their blueline. Dumoulin had none, while Petry only had some.

Graves and Karlsson are substantial upgrades in that department.

So, it wasn't so much that Petry was bad, but that there were opportunities to significantly upgrade in key areas, and in order to do so, Petry had to go.

The best way I can explain Karlsson is, he's Geno at handling the puck in tight quarters with the opposition and maintains the puck. He doesn't panic and treat the puck like a grenade.

They haven’t scored yet and maybe this is cope but really think OC-Eller can be the foundation of a good 3rd line. Eller’s looked much fresher than I imagined. OC willing to play his tail off. Just needs to come together, probably with a better RW. If they could add another top 6 guy, Raks would fit real well there.

Ya they definitely have to waive someone. Keeping Shea and Ludvig at the detriment to the bottom 6 is stupid. Neither guy has done anything at the NHL level to warrant be so concerned about losing them. Shea will be 27 come Feb. He isnt going to turn into some stud. Wave him and bring up a forward to try new combos in the bottom 6.

I will give him some time before judging him entirely. He made a really nice play on Geno's goal last night to step up and intercept a pass.

I think he skates better than Ceci but he is perfect as your number 4 with that cap and play.
Disagree about Ludvig. I definitely think he has good potential, and is an everyday player. I hope he can somehow get into the lineup instead of Ruhwedel.

Shea, no clue why he's here. who even is this guy.

LOL, that was 1 game for Vancouver.....

I watched him play 135 games as a Pen.......trust me, he's a below average backup.

Kudos to Dubas for getting rid of the bum and bringing in Ned.
DeSmith was a very good backup actually. The problem was he was tasked to be the starter too much because of Jarry's and Murray's health.

But his stats are very good for a backup. Never understood the hatred for him, when it wasn't his fault he played so much.

I like two things about EK on the pp so far:

1) He's killing it on the breakouts. Just seriously way better at them than Letang. He skates aggressively at the other team's pk which opens up the drop pass. And if they don't respect him, he'll just skate the puck right into the o-zone.

2) He's absolutely unafraid to shoot. And his shot - or the threat of it - opens things up.

I wonder how the tune would change if Geno sucked it up and called in to the show like, once every 5 years to shout "Madden Best! One Six Six!" I bet the ole mouth breather would be leading the campaign for first ballot HOF if that were the case.

Does anyone even pay attention to Madden anymore? I feel like he hasn't been relevant since the late 90s. His schtick is tired and there are plenty who do it way better if you like the whole "loudmouth know-it-all" thing. And people around here only care about Vinny T for one reason... I'll give you a wild guess as to what that is. Otherwise he's a pretty run of the mill 2C who still can't outperform a dude pushin' 40.

Elite analytics on the Primanti's Cap and Cheese ingested per 60 metric though.

The reason we are all paying attention to Madden when he says dumbass things is the exact reason he says dumbass things. I mean, he CAN'T be that moronic for real, right?

Yeah Eller has looked good to me. Very solid and steady two way guy. It'd be really nice if that 3rd line could catch some fire. It's definitely possible. I have really liked that line.
