IDK; Geno's been pretty awesome too. The funniest sequence against the Flames was Geno saucering a beautiful pass to Nieto, who seemed to have no idea Geno could get the puck to him, and then no idea how to handle the pass. The difference between our Top 6 and Bottom 6 exemplified.

But yeah, EK is like going back and watching Paul Coffey, with not quite the wheels, but probably every bit of IQ and more.

SO you're saying I didn't watch him play this weekend???
I'm sure you did.

But it's clear your evaluation of Petry's play doesn't match with the Wings' coaching staff and management.

He was a minus-2, took a pair of penalties, was on the ice for two goals against, didn't register a point and wasn't on the ice for a goal for.

Not exactly a stellar pair of games. So the Wings are electing to play Shayne Gostisbehere, Justin Holl, Olli Maatta and Ben Chiarot ahead of Petry, at least for one game.

Are there still organizations out there that will actually healthy scratch an ancient vet who is slow and takes bad penalties, like holding the stick of an opposing player for no reason? I’m astounded…someone alert Mike Sullivan

You won't get any pushback from me on that. He's impossible to remove from the roster, but I don't want him in the lineup.

Sullivan and Dubas both deserve criticism for that. It's not the end of the world - almost everyone has a lousy 12th forward - but it's certainly a negative.

And Dubas deserves some criticism for only having 12 forwards and for not keeping a forward in reserve who could be an option to replace Carter.

The confusing thing is that Shea and Ludvig are both LDs so what's the point in having both up? There no chance Shea gets claimed and it's not a problem if he does. Sending Shea down also helps to accrue a little bit of cap space

he's not involved in enough plays to get injured, unless he twists his ankle behind the play

I'll admit that my distaste for Sully over recent years has gotten so bad that I almost get annoyed with our success (these past two games) with him at the helm.

But

If the season can continue on like this, I'll gladly eat crow

I think they're been seeing how Ludvig picks up the system. Plus, they've been using him on his off side in practice, so they're seeing if he can play both sides.

Eventually they're going to have to make a call and balance things out.

Well the game I watched, not sure if was before his benching or after, he was actively more engaged than any game I ever watched him play in a Pens uniform.

Glad my boy is being appreciated, as a fan of another team you might only see his counting stats and miss just how much he does in game on plays that don't end up as goals. But once he's on your team you see all that up close.

He's an absolutely elite play driver, including at ES, remember he had 74(!) ES points last year on an abomination of a sharks team.

His vision and passing ability is right at the top of the league, and his carom passes are like frickin Efren Reyes.

Yea there's definitely another level of vision there. Letang is a good offensive defenseman who, contrary to some meme takes here and there, does have good offensive IQ. But Karlsson makes those offensive reads well before they happen, so he's always setting up wide open guys cross ice.

Does anyone even pay attention to Madden anymore? I feel like he hasn't been relevant since the late 90s. His schtick is tired and there are plenty who do it way better if you like the whole "loudmouth know-it-all" thing. And people around here only care about Vinny T for one reason... I'll give you a wild guess as to what that is. Otherwise he's a pretty run of the mill 2C who still can't outperform a dude pushin' 40.
Shockingly, he actually wrote a few good (if not very good) Pens articles near the end of Hextall's tenure, the Dubas hiring, and the trade for EK. I felt a bit dirty, but I found myself agreeing with most of his takes.

Having said that, he's always been a loudmouth blowhard who represents Pittsburgh very poorly.

Madden is direct and concise which I appreciate. He happens to be wrong in conspicuous ways, but that's simply sports journalism for you.

Maybe Detroit will put him back in the lineup on Wednesday when the Wings face the Pens and we can all see just how engaged Petry looks.

They’re up 4 on the BJs without him lol, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wings played every one of their former Pens against us, seeing how the usually do well against us: Sprong, Maatta, Perron, Petry…
