Hane is all over the place, no idea how he has managed to let only one puck past him.

Well that period was awful. 2 different 10 minute boarding penalties. Didn't convert on the powerplays that were gifted to us. Got scored on our penalty kill (I don't even think Dostal knew Bokk was there).

German's were clearly better and dealt really well with all their adversity. Czechs were just awful. Then had momentum at end of first but started second with a penalty (which is how we started the first too). I imagine we'll get a penalty in the first 30 seconds of the third too?

Haven't noticed enough out of Mysak, Blumel, Jenik etc.

Also, needs to be said, the refs destoryed that period for the fans and both teams. Just an awful period of hockey to watch.

As far as tiebreakers and such... I've said from the start that Czechs need to get to OT to have a chance at advancing. I have no reason to believe we'll beat Canada/US in the enxt 2 games. If Germany wins this, they'll advance and we'll play Kazakhstan.

Targetting Stutzle is a good move but they need to pick their spots better.
Stutzl needs to get used to attention... he's awesome. Czechs are just not playing smart or disciplined. Germans are beating them in every aspect of the game.

Probably head to head record between those 3 teams.

Kind of weird system anyway, the result of goals would be more important in the group-stage.

Hockey is about scoring more goals than the opponent and preferably not even letting in a single. That's why the whole thing gets really skewed, but I understand that excitement is important and that's why they do this.

We haven't had consistent pressure or high danger chances. No breakaways, no 2 on 1's.. no 1 timers in highslot.

If 3 teams end up on the same, whats happening?
It's points scored/goal difference in the games between those 3 countries.

Hockey is about winning games and this system reflects it pretty well. If you lost to direct opposition it doesn't matter how much you whaled on the little guy.

The game isn't over yet, but it's looking like a typical outcome for us at the WJC.....beat a stronger team (Russia) and follow it up by losing to a less strong team (Germany).

It will be interesting if the Czechs are down 2 late if they pull the goalie. If Russia gets anything from Canada/USA then goals for/against won't matter as it will be the 2 way head to head, but if they don't an empty netter against could end you. 2 goal loss Czechs would be -1, Russia is currently -1 but would have to beat Germany for it to matter. Germany would be +2. Would then require a 4 goal loss to Russia to put them below the Czechs. Pull the goalie and lose by 3 then suddenly you're -2, Germany is +3 and would have to lose by 6 to not make it.

Didn't Lener say in 2010 it would take 10 years before we are medal contenders? Here we are, home WJC, and Germany is about to send us to relegation group.

Regarding your goalie example (which is not very good exactly because it's the most specific position in the game), there are 2 main problems. First of all, rink size is an adjustment to everyone so the question becomes not the quality, but they habits. Secondly, is there any substantial evidence Francouz or Shestyorkin couldn't have played in the NHL right away? Teams just have chosen to send them to the AHL for different reasons. Lastly, regarding Koskinen, I don't think many people are losing sleep over that contract this season. Many were doubtful, naturally and it's hard to understand how did Koskinen get the leverage to ask for that kind of money but realistically, it's a pretty fair contract.

Regarding all these rankings, it just depends so much on what emphasis do you put on depth. NLA is considered so good because they have 10 good teams even though those rankings somebody linked show their CHL results are not that great. But CHL doesn't value depth at all. If we take 10th team in NLA vs 10th in DEL/Liiga/Extraliga they probably blow them out of the water. AHL vs KHL comparison faces the same problem. KHL has weak teams, AHL has weak teams. KHL has powerhouses, AHL sometimes does, sometimes doesn't. The way I see it, that's where KHL's edge is. My ranking would be:

NHL
KHL>AHL/SHL/NLA
Liiga/DEL/Extraliga
EBEL
The rest

I think the leagues that I wrote in the same line, that can all be argued. It just depends on the criteria you evaluate them on. The gaps between the lines are pretty significant.

If you dont think my goalie argument is good then my point is total garbage.lol

However, goalies are REALLY important and they all come through the AHL. For instance, all 3 Czech NHL goalies went through the AHL to get there. When Askarov gets drafted Top 10 he'll go through the AHL as well.

Was Francouz good enough.. clearly he wasn't. 2 years later and he's a backup. No controversy there at all. I'm an avid Oiler's fan and if you can find an Oiler's fan anywhere thinking that 3 years, 12 million a NMC is a good contract, I'm all ears.

Even is Francouz was somehow wronged and shoudl've been in the NHL last year... that's 2 guys in 10 years. There are 62 goalies (or more) in the NHL every season.

The fact the AHL is played on NHL size ice is another advantage in its favour since the best players are in the NHL and that is every kids dream.

Having said that... I'm not a fan of AHL hockey, nor do I watch it very closely. If I was a pro hockey player and didn't think I could crack the NHL.. I'd much rather play in Europe then the AHL.

My entire argument is based on NHL being the best league with the best players.

Champion's league is actually shown on TSN and I tune in to watch the Czech teams. What I've noticed is pretty empty crowds, backup goalies and not the best players playing because it is midseason. That is a very small sample size of course and maybe the Champion's league is a huge deal but I noticed Kometa Brno last year was missing 2 or 3 top guys and playing their backup. Same with Mountfield the last game I saw. Also, it doesn't include KHL teams so I'm not sure how good a barometer of quality it is? It's an odd club tourney to me personally.

He did. I have absolutely no idea what on earth they've been doing the last 10 years that we still can't produce good defenseman and consistently produce some higher end forwards. How hard can it be? Come on.

So if czechs won't score atleast two in the last period they are likely going to the relegation round... That's just unbelievable since they would have a great chance to beat anyone in the QF.

I have no reason to believe we deserve to move on.

Germans have outscored us
outshot us
out 'special teamed' us

This pool is so strong than anyone of these 5 teams in the relegation side seems unfair. I'd take any of these 5 teams to beat everyone in the other pool except Sweden and maybe Finland(it's close with Finland's injuries), but on a good day for Czechs or Germany they could beat both of those as well

I mean, we desperately need a powerplay goal... Mysak with another penalty draw

I'd say the short turonver between games hasn't hurt the German's at all.lol
