Also, don't like the media thing of "oh hey look - fans in columbus now care about their hockey team because they created a hashtag!"

Get over it. I've created hashtags for the dumbest things like #debatingiheartzerdev (not that one, just an example). "Everyone" does it. A ton of people I follow do that. When some people like it and re-tweet; it catches on.

It's part of society right now. It's meaningless. People get excited when things trend. I guess it makes them feel like they are part of something bigger. That's a pretty common human reaction.

I've tried to get people to realize perception outside of Columbus doesn't matter; at least with other teams fans or the media. What matter is how the NHL and it's team(s)/front office(s) view us. Even then the NHL is mainly for events coming to Columbus. The teams respecting us is just a bi-product of us doing well on the ice.

The media (most of the Canadian and large market) is going to look down at us as a cow-town midwest team that only likes the Buckeyes. It's the common narrative. I really don't care about that perception. Trending hashtags in twitter aren't really going to change that narrative. The better we do, over time, (both on-ice and with attendance) the media should start to let up a bit. We're starting to see some of it.

That picture of 19, 38 and 21 celebrating has to be the sports picture of the year. No question about it.

I've kind of stopped caring so much about external perception and internal perception too. I just love the Jackets. The parallel story about news stories, attendance, etc.. is not so important, although I am heartened by all the good press this year (Lebrun, & numerous pieces on tsn come to mind).

I just don't think a true fan of a hockey team should need a gimmick to help get them excited, especially when it's a pretty bad ripoff of a Seattle Seahawks thing.

It's true no one is making me participate and people can do what they want, but it is cringe-inducing when it gets media coverage or the Blue Jackets website covers it as it gives the impression all fans are into it.

You just don't see the classic fanbases, like the Hawks/Rangers/Pens/Habs obsessing over getting a slogan trending, they just come out and support the hockey.

I agree. It's not about perception because everyone in the country thinks this kind of thing is cool. I just think, go to the game (wear a jersey if you have to), cheer your team, and shut up about it :)

Seriously, I love the Jackets to the core, but I am NOT the 5th line. Let's be grownups

stay off my twitter account! hahahaha

i like the 5th line thing, i just don't care for the individuals getting credit for it...everything i've seen from them is trying to put the focus on them, not the team or their causes...

Every time a fan thing happens here, it ends up being about the thing and not about the team. It's annoying but it's easier to just ignore it - unless you dig it, in which case go for it.

the 'CBJ!!' chant i thought was pretty cool [and a huge respite from the 3rd goal Chili!! crap and the stale 'Let's Go Jackets' chant that's way too generic and tired, imo] but that '5th Line' thing I'm betting will get bigger and bigger as our season [and hopefully playoff] continues...

RE: 5th line.

Provided it doesn't turn into something that produces ACA-levels of self importance, who cares?

I was wrong when I said that Wiz is 1 point away from 50. He already scored 50 since he had an assist on Horton's goal in Dallas.
So last night the Jackets got their first ever 50 points defenseman.

He already has 50 because of a goal that will be scored tonight.

I'm sorry but most of you couldn't sound more self righteous and, to be frank, older than dirt about us having a group of fans that call themselves the 5th line. They are there to support the club, after that nothing else really matters does it? I am struggling to find the logic of some on this board, so often you complain about there being opposing team fans in the building, and now you're complaining about there being Blue Jacket fans in the building.

Enjoy the fact that there are people who want to get involved with this hockey club. It may come as a surprise to some of you that going to the game can be a social event where you can make friends who share a common interest and want to develop their own experience at the games. If they're being respectful and cheering for the Blue Jackets then what's everyone freaking out about? Quit pissing and moaning because the team you love has more fans now, you sound like a bunch of hipsters whose old favorite band is now playing stadium tours.

Really am done with this whole issue, but first... :handclap:

I know you've been waiting for my comments, so here it goes.

I hate Seattle fans that wear those #12 jerseys. When you are paying tribute to yourself for being such a good fan, in my book you are a d-bag. Go and cheer THE TEAM or your favorite player.

The Fifth Line and ACA aren't at that level, and if it makes for a louder arena, I'm OK with that. Just remember you are there for the team, not the other way around.

Yeah, that's a good way to put it. I just wish the focus was more on the team and the hockey.

Also, don't like the media thing of "oh hey look - fans in columbus now care about their hockey team because they created a hashtag!"

Some of us, a lot of us, have cared since the beginning and it shouldn't be portrayed that Columbus fans are now just starting to root for the team.

It sounds to me like YOU wish the attention was on YOU for being the "truest fan" from the start. We get it dude, you've liked the Blue Jackets since the start, so have I, and so have a lot of others. Unfortunately the nature of sports is, when you are continually ***** people don't want to spend money to come watch you play. Would you continue going to a restaurant if they started serving sh*tty food, no I didn't think you would, just calm down and stop being judgmental of other people and follow your own advice, care about the team and the hockey and stop worrying about other fans.
