Also, don't like the media thing of "oh hey look - fans in columbus now care about their hockey team because they created a hashtag!"
Get over it. I've created hashtags for the dumbest things like #debatingiheartzerdev (not that one, just an example). "Everyone" does it. A ton of people I follow do that. When some people like it and re-tweet; it catches on.
It's part of society right now. It's meaningless. People get excited when things trend. I guess it makes them feel like they are part of something bigger. That's a pretty common human reaction.
I've tried to get people to realize perception outside of Columbus doesn't matter; at least with other teams fans or the media. What matter is how the NHL and it's team(s)/front office(s) view us. Even then the NHL is mainly for events coming to Columbus. The teams respecting us is just a bi-product of us doing well on the ice.
The media (most of the Canadian and large market) is going to look down at us as a cow-town midwest team that only likes the Buckeyes. It's the common narrative. I really don't care about that perception. Trending hashtags in twitter aren't really going to change that narrative. The better we do, over time, (both on-ice and with attendance) the media should start to let up a bit. We're starting to see some of it.
