Dubinsky has not been disappointing. In the two month stretch from Jan 8th to Mar 8th, when Dubinsky was our #1 Center between Atkinson and Jenner (Torts has since demoted him, inexplicably (tanking?)), Dubinsky had 21 pts in 26 games. In other words, he was a solid #1 Center, the first time we had one all year. You would think this achievement would draw notice from the fans, but instead he is still considered disappointing. Dubinsky is doing his thing, winning the vast majority of his puck battles, and unlike Foligno has been a serious presence all year.
Foligno had 18 pts in 19 games prior to his concussion. He was playing great, and people were still asking "Is he playing?", which should be all the evidence you need that certain posters speak from their id, not their brain. I think this is where Viqsi is onto something. There seems to be some kind of apotheotic expectation at work.
(Though I don't know how Johansen's antics are excused in any professional setting, I'm only here to defend players who play well and don't get credit.)
Since Foligno's concussion he's been okay all-around, but certainly not an effective scorer - one lucky hat trick and not much more. If not for that concussion we could be looking at a 50 pt or so season for him, which is fully in line with the 55 pt expectations that you would get from his abilities and his contract. (Though not in line, of course, with the one-true savior expectations). I don't know why anyone thinks Foligno is "expected to be the focal point of the offense". Before the year started, even with our rose-colored glasses on, we were all expecting his offense to regress, and so was Jarmo or he would have paid him more than second-tier money.
