At least another team I don't have to see again, but 4 more against the Kings. Wake me up when all this is over

We know San Jose always plays us tough, it's just one of those teams where Hertl/Couture/Meier/Kane/etc just want to get up for the game for some reason.

Problem isn't the effort, it's the stupid plays. Hockey IQ is such an undervalued part of the game and there are times when the Avs players look like hockey morons. Case in point that last 2 minutes.

Mikko Rantanen also tries the most difficult **** when he's on that right side all the damn time, I don't get it.

@henchman24, you still think your boy is worth $9M? Lol. What a f***en joke. $7.5M, tops. Let him go if he wants higher than that. That’s a Lucic contract in the making.

I’ve said it a bunch but SJ are way better than their record. I think they’re much better than AZ and probably should have challenged STL for that final spot. But you know... Martin Jones.

Tough game. Landy had one of his bonehead nights where he was a detriment on the result but the good news is that he hasn’t had many of those this year. The top line in total sucked so it’s certainly not all on him. Newhook didn’t wow but he looked like belongs which is impressive given the system he needs to learn. He backed off on several loose pucks because Bednar wants the centre to play high in the o zone but he’ll quickly learn when he can pounce. He’s usually not that flat footed but I understand why. I get Bednar wanting him to play his natural position of centre and long term he should but I really do believe it would be smarter to transition him in on the wing with minimal responsibility away from the puck. Naz played great. Timmins played great.

We can keep using this excuse, but the Avs didn’t lose because they didn’t have enough talent. They lost the game because they looked like they stopped playing after going up by 2.
Yep effort was absolute dog shit. I've never seen a team give less effort than this one. It's a consistent problem. They seem disinterested on frequent enough basis.

Not sure why it's so difficult for this team too show up to the game and give a quality effort on a nightly basis. You are going to lose games here and there but it shouldn't be because you look disinterested and don't give a shit.

Strange to see you lean so far into this that it’s basically been all you posted since his penalty.
I’ve always said he isn’t worth more than $7.5M. Good all around player, gets the hype cause he went #2. Put him on the 2nd line where he belongs.

I’ve seen posts about him getting $9M. Holy f***. Not even f***en close.

Wake me up when the playoffs start

Hope we lose rest of the games in the regular season, HF is much more fun this way.

I still think playing in this division, with all these heavy, slog it out teams, could be a huge boon for the Avs. If they can lock in on that goal and keep their heads on straight I still think they and Tampa are the best shots at the cup.

Without Girard, Byram, Saad, EJ, and Calvert, it's to be expected

Why are you including EJ and Calvert? They're not a part of team.

And San Jose is one of the worst teams in the league. If you can't win, with 1st place/home ice advantage on the line, and the other team playing for nothing...not sure what to say.

I thought Newhook looked good so that’s a positive. It’s too bad both of his linemates didn’t want to play the quick passing game with him and I don’t see that changing too much with how they play but that line still had good shifts and scored. Keep them together.

Sharks did a good job of shutting down the offense in the third so credit to them. It’s also tough to defend leads and win when your top pair is as bad as Makar and Toews were at times in the defensive zone.

That was some really bad hockey with the extra attacker too. A bunch of one-on-everyone hero hockey instead of actually trying to use that man advantage.

Oh well. Can’t win them all.

Excuse my "hyperbole," but that was an unacceptable loss. Coaching staff blew it. The top line blew it. The top pairing blew it. They were going to have to win out to catch Vegas, but now they're just in danger of losing home ice against Minnesota. You just cannot piss these games away this late into the season.

“Hyperbole” excused! I agreed with you until you brought up the standings. Can still catch Vegas. Definitely not realistically in danger of losing home ice against MN.

Just dug into the home/away stats.

The Avs have a +6 goal differential on the road and a +45 goal differential at home.

Meh, we know the Avs are facing some adversity now and will in the playoffs. Good to see Newhook play fairly well. He wanted to set up in his office a couple of times, but adjusted quickly when it wasn't there.

As much praise as Mose and McNab were heaping on the big line earlier, that changed in a hurry.
I had a bad feeling when Mack had that similar play tonight to the last game's play.
