The test for the Avs is the playoffs. We all know they can be an elite team, but elite teams can go through droughts and issues. Avs are in a stinker pit right now. They'll find their way out of it. Yeah, it kinda sucks it is happening now with Vegas and Minny playing well, but the success of the season won't be games 48-54... it will be does this team get past the second round and does the team come close to or win a Cup?

Teams have off nights. No team can or will give 100% effort every single game it’s just how life is. I mean Tampa has struggled against Detroit this year. Does that make them a fake contender? Should Stamkos lose his captaincy?

I've never suggested anything about the captaincy in a long time and never allued to it in this thread, so stop putting words in my mouth. I stopped caring about Landy doesn't matter what I think of him. The crusaders around here will just defend him at every turn so they're is no sense in even bridging any negative topic around him. Not worth my time.

Off nights are fine, we've been off for 2 weeks and played 2 months at the beginning of the year like shit. Haven't really played well since the covid break.

And honestly I could care less about Tampa. Their fans can worry about them, I only care about the Avs, and I'm not liking what I've seen lately. Got to be better if we want any chance on the playoffs.

Yup. The regular season is a dress rehearsal. This team is going to be judged on their playoff success or non success. If the Avs went 56-0 and bowed out in the first round all that would be talked about is they got bounced in the first round and what a great season they had only for an early exit. This is what happened to Tampa a few years ago. Presidents Trophy winners with ease and swept in the first round.

Tx for analysis. As said, I have never understood, well... will skip the launch/disappointment in the inconsistent compete level.

It's a mystery, something I've wondered about multiple years now. This team and it's makeup just can't seem to get over that hump and realize that the only way you win games at this level is by playing with effort.

Still way to frequently this team just doesn't bother to show up.

Couldn't tell you if it's leadership or coaching or what. But they like to show up coast around like it's the all star game and expect to win way too often.

Last night the game falls very much so on the leaders of this team. Meaning first line and Makar and Toews. It was a shit show by those guys. And quite frankly that's disappointing at this time of the year, that's when these guys need to step up, not hide with their tails tucked.

Tx for the analysis. As mentioned in another response, I have never understood the lack of compete level in anything, ever. My background, and being around extraordinary people in their fields. Oh well... LA just scored so, here we go again. And am posting in the wrong game thread.

I don't have an issue with this teams leadership on or off the ice. I do have an issue with the teams record when trailing. To me that's clearly a coaching/strategy problem. Jared seems to like to have a good balance of take risk but not too many risks when trailing which often leads to nothing. Patrick Roy was YOLO go balls on the table to tie the game and leave Varly on an island. It worked that first year because Varly played out of his mind and then....

Bednars system is high intensity. That's probably a big reason as to why they cant dial it up a full 60. Add in the schedule and injuries and well you get a game like last night from the top guys.
