Post-Game Talk: Game 5

Maybe his heroic performance will be Game 6.

This crap was the same as the Carolina Game 5. You score one SHG and hope to win 1-0. That's not realistic you need a little more offense.

Both goals tonight were highly stoppable by his standards. This game is on him, 100%. Just watched the highlights and holy crap, they're worse than what I remember from the live game.

You cannot let Gustav Forsling, a defenseman whos career was on life support, backhand one past you low glove. You simply can't.

Off his angle on the second goal.

Both teams were hot garbage on the PP tonight so that negated itself. If anything theirs was worse because they gave up a SHG.

This was too big a game for him to give up 2 stoppable goals.

Needs to be legitimately lights out in game 6 or this entire run of playing above average while still giving up a fair amount of goals will mean zilch

The defense Gorton built is hot garbage as well. Good luck Montreal. Lindgren, Miller, Trouba. No one can defend or move the puck without shitting themselves, all acquired by him. Major shakeup needed and I really can’t wait. Igor must hate them secretly.
I loved Gorton from when he first took over until around 2020 when it became obvious he had no clue what he was doing and al those prospects went AWOL.

Miller/Fox/Scheider are the three who will remain. Mancini may steal a spot as soon as this fall. Fortescue may begin fall 2025.

I’ve been a proponent of Rempe since November but he should not play in these last two games if Laviolette doesn’t trust him.
He’s 21 he’ll get his chances. There are just better options in this series.
Yeah bro, you gotta go Wheeler and Cullye on the fourth line.

Rempe is going to be some player once he gets more man strength and his explosiveness kicks in. He's going to be very valuable for a future playoff run down the line.

They just need a couple of guys who can do that.

I know it's the third year, same thing. I get where you're coming from. But it's also third straight deadline that the guys they added do NOTHING to address anything you're talking about. Vatrano was a perimeter volume shooter, Kane is Kane, Tarasenko is a shooter, Wennberg is just Kakko at center. Roslovic is a solid rush player but is useless with a set defense in front of him.

This team needs a Hagelin and a Pouliot. A couple of guys who, in certain matchups, can be the impetus on a forecheck. The right players in the right spots can completely change a team.

And frankly, I don't want to completely remove the rush element from this team. Teams that just cycle all day don't score. That's why Kakko sucks.

I really think they just need a couple of pieces that legitimately address weaknesses to pull it together. Again, maybe I'll buy it with Zibanejad, because his awful puck management will kill players who try to cycle. I don't buy that Kreider and Panarin can't play that type of hockey. Especially Kreider.

Edstrom/Berard/Sykora are those type of players. Rempe as soon as next year maybe.

Haha, yup the Torts cycle which got to the point of ridiculousness come the 2013 playoffs.

I’m thinking outside hire on top 4 defense. We have bodies and assets to spare

I know it’s not going to be easy and I realize it’s impossible to move Zibanejad, which is why I’m so down and so frustrated with how these playoffs are turning out. It’s obvious this group is not good enough to get over the hump, and I don’t see how they are going to be able to make the improvements needed to fix that. I get the defense isn’t good, but the forwards very rarely make it any easier on them. They are soft in their own end, they aren’t able to create space and room for themselves, which in turn creates space for the defenseman because then the opposing team is pulled out of their structure. We wouldn’t have to play defense so often if the forward could hang onto the puck down low.
There are 2 real problems on this team. Trouba and Mika. One of them needs to be gone. The other stuff will be easier to work around. The Metro and the east really aren't that good aside from a handful of teams including the Rangers.

Then what's the point, honestly? It's just committing up to 8 months to bitter disappointment in the end. The older I get the less I understand being a sports fan.

It's honestly enjoyable.

The only part that hurts is the thought of how f***ing hard it is to get back the next year

But... In 2015 we f***ing did get back but laid an egg in G7

Truthfully though, those two seasons were about as enjoyable as it could possibly get without actually winning the goddamn cup

On the other hand this team is better than those lol

Provided the screen on the Lundell goal. I'm sorry!

I feel like he didn’t even get there in time for a screen, but would have to see it again. It was a bad goal to give up from Igor, but he gets peppered every game and we are lucky to get to 25 shots so not blaming this on Igor.

Kakko looks tiny out there compared to Luots and Lundell. We need Rempe and Mr. Ed to develop into those guys for us

Hope you're enjoying it because this is it for this core. Kreider has way too many miles on him which is understandable after playing on teams with the best goalie in the league that couldn't figure out how to close out a series in 5 games for like the better part of a decade

Edstrom I loved in the short time he was here.

I look at Rempe and I see a 4th liner who can add a certain element while a taking an NHL shift. That's fine.

I look at Edstrom and I see a role player in your top 9 who makes scorers better.

Stop wasting posts saying the same thing. We're out in the last round if not for Igor. Igor Shesterkin is more than good enough to win the Stanley Cup. We need what's in front of him to not be trash.

The depth on this team is significantly worse than 2014 and the defense too. Goaltending is a push with Igor's ceiling in the playoffs being lower than Hank's but his floor being higher.

. What is he [Lavi] waiting for? Next pre season? It's extremely disappointing.
The coach cycle effect is a weird influence. On the one hand, he knows he gets at least one more year to “show me.” OTOH, he can go back to Philly when Torts gets fired end of next season.

I wonder if we'd have seen Edstrom if Rempe didn't fight a bunch of guys early on and endear himself to the fans and the lockerroom.
