I'm sure alot of the extra spunk tonight was "win it for Marty" and if that's what we need, then by all means win another for Marty on Sunday.

Kings fan coming in peace.

I just wanted to say your guys played some inspiring hockey tonight.

Boyle's defensive play during that 5 on 3 in particular I thought was fantastic.

Glad to see you guys get the win, especially in light of the braindead scheduling the Rangers had to deal with and, more importantly, the tragic circumstances preceding tonight's game. This victory was much deserved and I hope you guys get the next one too.

Don't you love PGTs where we win convincingly and Hank (plays normal for Hank) only lets up one goal?

*crickets*

I dunno...perhaps they decided to quit wasting their time and apply it to better things in life then wasting it on this team.

Rangers have never comeback from 3-1 in their entire history and many people know the reality already...maybe there is your reason for the "crickets'

If they can win game 6 maybe this team will be worth my time again this playoff year...maybe...but I won't waste it anymore this year and I certainly didn't watch the game tonight...been a fan 30 years with constant disappointment...this year has been like many others

If they comeback and win this series, let alone win game 6, I'll gladly eat crow....but they won't

Also...They have never beaten Pittsburgh in the playoffs

Hope they prove me wrong

Lol, what a joke. Those last 3 efforts were unacceptable, especially in the playoffs and ESPECIALLY game 4. They deserved to be booed off the ice and Nash specifically.

Even the beat writers were writing it was deserved.

I've spent over 100K on this team in the past decade. If I think I'm getting a **** product I'm entitled to boo. You're going to tell me I'm not a real fan?

How about the beat writers who travel with the team? Are they not dedicated because they think the team they are basically a part of deserves to be booed?

Sorry, but I'm not going to act all rah rah about this team just because. I want them to win, as much as anyone on this planet. My life revolves around them. But I'm a realist and when the product I pay a **** load for is embarrassing, I'll gladly call them out on it.

And Rick Nash is not paid to be ok, or get chances, he is paid to score, plain and simple. He hasn't done that, at all. I've defended this guy for over a year now, but there's no more. His effort is weak and his results are nil. My biggest issue is that he doesn't even skate hard to the bench. He doesn't go to the net after generating a shot. I've seen him mozy to the bench numerous times in these playoffs whne the play is going on around him.

If he was hitting everything in site and giving what i felt was 100% I might feel better about him overall, but right now I see a lazy, gliding player who isn't producing any offensive results.

totally agree

I actually predicted a 5-1 win yesterday. I am shocked it came true. I figured we'd blow them out but I didn't think I'd call a score right. I predicted a blow out for us in this game following it up with a loss at home. Lets pray my second half is wrong.

completely dumbfounded by this win. in my defense, so was maloney. he didn't come out and say it, but it was pretty clear that's what he meant.

i can't say enough about st. louis playing after losing his mom. i thought there was zero chance he would play. that had to be really tough.

kreider's goal was fantastic. i hope nash was taking notes. the kid scores in the playoffs.

i'm a mets, jets and knicks fan also so i fully expect them to lay an egg sunday at home but i'll be happy if they prove me wrong.

Flew back home from Europe today, missed the game.

Looked like a damn good one to miss :(.

Excellent collective effort, hope they'll keep this momentum into game 6 (and 7).

Pics or didn't happen.

Aww yea. Such a refreshing outcome. Game 6 will be interesting.

Zuuuuuuuuuuuucc

Nash really did next to nothing tonight except miss an open net. The coach noticed also as Nash only played 13 minutes one of the lowest totals of any forward.

this is really good on AV... I'm glad he's realizing Nash is not solid in clutch situations

thank you for posting...

This situation is so tough... but you have to admit that it's pulling the team together. It most likely helps that Brad and Marty are close friends, and it looks like Brassard is really being an emotional leg for Marty

McD might actually be physically OK... it seems more and more that this is a mental problem... similar to how it took Richards much time to recover between early 2013 and late 2013

Even if he were hurt, They would never reveal it to the public until the playoffs were over. It's asking to put a target on your back if you do.

Well said.

He definitely has zero confidence right now. The bashing of him on here is ridiculous though. The guy needs support, not boos, and in my naive little mind I'm hoping that support is what he'll get entering the ice on Sunday. Confidence is such a huge boost in hockey.

Well put.

the difference in Pierre's enthusiasm when the Rangers score compared to when PIT scores is an abomination. Show some professionalism thats all that we ****ing ask. Same goes for Doc, and the rest of NBC's awful broadcast team. They all sound like their dog died when things are going well for the Rangers.

I think Pierre is excellent at what he does and is insightful, knows what he is saying and says it clearly. The fact that Doc is the national voice of hockey is absurd. He's just unlistenable at this point. The putrid attempts at humor, the absurd over description of a simple play, the same played out act over and over, it's disingenuous and just plain bad! If Sam Rosen wanted this job and took it, the quality of the broadcast would escalate tremendously and I'd venture to say the ratings would improve. These NBC games make me long for the days when MSG broadcast the playoffs all the way through!

Rangers looked a million times better. The level of speed and puck support in game 5 vs game 4 is so much better. That's what it will take again on Sunday vs a Penguins team who I'm sure will want to end it again.

Nash is still no where to be found. Do the fans still boo him on Sunday? He has done nothing for that to change. It will be interessting to see the booing story line develop.

Great game from our guys. Amazing what intensity and desire can do. Aside of a rocky start to the 2nd period - where Hank stood tall for us - we were the better team. Solid defensively and on fire offensively (by NYR-standards).

Brass and Zucc were our top performers, closely followed by Hank and McDonagh (feels good to type).

This one was for Marty (who had a good game).

The team wasn't afraid to go the crease at either end. They consistently made the effort to get in front of Fleury (rather than just saying "we have to be better" then not following up on it). They conciously kept doing it. That was real key ingredient to this win, and I doubt I can remember a game where they did it as well as tonight.
They also defended Henrik well in the post-whistle scrums in front of and around Henrik. That gave Henrik some confidence, he knew the team had his back. Look how he chirped and bothered Crosby, that was sweet.

Very good points Tri. They played a physical, dirty game. Was it desperation? Or just will? I guess we'll find out Sunday.

One other thing, I don't know if it was discussed or seen but they interviewed Bylsma after the game and one question was telling. That asked him about their home record in the playoffs, which isn't very good apparently. He had no answer for it and was very agitated by the question. If, IF, the Rangers can win at home, I would think there would be a lot of doubt in Pitt that they can win game 7. I know I'm getting ahead of the situation but it could come into play.

I think Chosen had a post in the GDT that said, and I'm paraphrasing, the Rangers should retire if they need extra motivation (Marty). I guess they all need to retire then. ;)

Eh, I guess this is just stylistic preference. I think Doc is good at what he does and enjoyable most of the time.

I enjoyed last game a lot, but boy was that 2nd goal by Brassard ever timely. Came right when we needed it, because the Pens appeared to be on a mission from the start of the 2nd until that goal. Hank stood tall when we needed him.

I think Dorsett played a good game. Gets into the Pens faces, seemingly hitting a nerve, upset Kunitz. More of that. I want him, Klein, John Moore, Boyle, Kreider - and yes, even Zuccarello, who appears to have a knack for trash talking and Pouliot who should just go and lay siege to Fleurys crease - to take a page or two out of the Flyers playbook in that regard. Muck it up. The Pens are a very skilled team, and if you play run and gun with them, you'll likely come up short. But they have some mental midgets who take stupid penalties.

The entire game: Crosby putting on his best complaining face. Glorious.

Its a little funny as well, that the bigger the win, the shorter the PGT is.

3 stars: Brass, Zucc, MacHank, HM: Marty
