In the GDT someone mentioned Backes and one of the reasons they brought him in was for games like this. And like that poster, I'm not blaming Backes in anyway for a loss.
Rather, can we please put to bed that "leadership"(or lack thereof) was the reason the team folded over the last 2 years? Bergeron is a leader, Chara is a leader, Backes is a leader, etc etc. The reason the team doesn't win consistently is a talent problem not a leadership problem, not a toughness problem, not a effort problem.
The D is poor so the coach plays extra conservative and requires that of the Fs. Maybe he's right, the team would be worse if they opened it up. But the problem is that this team isn't the 2011 team that had deep enough scoring throughout that they could play a defensive system and still score. They just aren't talented enough to do that, especially when playing defensive.
Before the game on the radio Claude was asked about Morrow getting into the game and what he needed to do "Keep it simple, just play a simple game". I thought to my self, "Does Claude ever NOT say that about a player... any player?" I swear every interview he says that.
Now it's not Claude's fault either. Again, they simply don't have enough talent on the blueline or at F and the backup goalie situation is a joke considering they spent a 1st rd pick on a guy that can't even do that.
I understand that when Zboril turns 21 we'll all be popping champagne, but unless the team is going to be lowering season ticket prices in the meantime and unless they admit to their fans that they really aren't "trying" to win, then they owe it to try and ice a more competitive team. We rag on players for shying away from contact and not "competing" yet how hard is Sweeney trying to win right now given the roster he's assembled?
Ask my friend who spent $540 to take his 3 kids to the game.
Losing a stinker to an elite team is one thing but losing badly at home TWICE to Brooklyn is another story.
I think we are all a little shocked by how today's game played out even knowing this is a Jekyll and Hyde team. The last seven minutes of the second period is as bad as I ever seen them play at home.
Still I wouldn't be shocked if the win easily in Detroit and come home and beat Chicago.
What I took away from the postgame comments is the players are sad and frustrated BUT THEY ARE NOT ANGRY.
That is the problem.
It would be nice if the fans were noisier....it is pathetic compared to other arenas. It reminds me of Toronto where only the rich can afford seats and they don't care much about cheering. I hate the Habs but that arena rocks. Not saying that is THE reason but getting the crowd going can affect visiting teams.
It's a popular answer but I'm still skeptical of what firing Cam alone really changes for this team.
What crowd gets behind a game like today?
Agree. Watching Chara's post game interview, he just looked like he didn't like what he had for lunch.
I am not specifically talking about this one game. We were winning nicely against the Flyers and the organ was playing the chant...and no one was cheering. So pathetic...I couldn't believe it. The crowd lacks passion.
The product blows. Not specifically the Bruins, but whatever reason the NHL is boring this year. The Bruins are getting up there with Minnesota for painful viewing experiences though

Even the Hawks and Penguins shouldn't be taking any team lightly in today's league, let alone the Bruins.
The fact that this mentality even exists within the room is troubling.

He has made over $77 million and coming into retirement in a couple years, won a cup, why should he care.
I know if I had hundreds of millions of dollars I would be unmotivated sometimes if I had his type of job security.
Check out Jagr for fun.

I know,
Maybe it's time to bring in another 33ish veteran, apparently they are really good leaders and everybody knows you can't possibly have to many leaders, right?

Firing anyone does bring any immediate help.
Extend Claude after the Blues game
Bruins kicked their ass- - 16-4-4 team at home
Fire Claude after Islanders game
Lose to last place team at home rested with a serious beating
My take is Claude will look smart Thursday in Detroit
