I cant disagree with the culture aspect of it. But, did you feel this way during the Lundqvist years? Because the bad culture they seemingly have now was not how the Lundqvist teams were built at all.
I just can't as a fan chalk it up to "Oh well, Palpatine is in charge and we have no chance of ever winning with him running the show so we may as well just live with the fact that were screwed."
I know outrage is the favorite emotion of Ranger fans but things are good! We made a deep run last year with a team of 23 year olds and are very much in the mix to do it again. There is plenty of time left before we need to label the lottery boys as busts. It would be a unique development curve for them to become impact players in the mid-20s, but they were also drafted into a unique situation no?
Honestly, they just didn't have the talent back then for something like that to happen.
Forget Panarin, Mika Zibanejad would look an alien on the Lundqvist teams.
It made for a less toxic place for development, but they needed more talent to get over the hump. It's a double-edged sword.
The situation is far from dire, I'll agree with that, but Panarin and Zibanejad are mortal. If this team doesn't want to run into not having the horses again like they did with Hank, the young players need to improve.
I'm not saying it's hopeless, either. The Rangers went from Leetch to McDonagh without a 45 point defenseman. They became a development powerhouse on D, including for my money, the best defenseman on this earth. Things
can change. I'm just afraid they don't see the issue.
