It's the elephant in the room. Gallant acknowledged as much after the Bruins game, even though he couched his comments saying it was an issue with "the line" and not just Panarin, even though we all know Trocheck & Kravtsov have looked good away from Bread. The next 33 games + playoffs are going to fascinating. I think there's a chance we see some real organizational turmoil this summer.
Maybe we need some turmoil. Anything to change this in-group, out-group culture.

Way too much leash for certain forwards and not nearly enough for anybody else. Obviously this is with multiple coaches.

The biggest problem is that, unless you're an instant hit like McDavid, a young player is almost never going to walk right in and be in the in-group, and the leash disappears quickly.

And I'm not talking about ice time. They've had ice time. We just don't seem that interested in developing their skills because they're not the top guys, nor do we seem interested in getting the most out of the top guys because they do what they want.

What's the result? Everyone gets a bit worse at offense for different reasons.

I can't blame Panarin as an individual because this has been the Rangers my whole life, but he's a big enough star with enough on the line to set a good or a bad example of how we operate going forward.

It's both.

Yes, we'd be in better shape if young players were producing more, but Goodrow and Vesey have been in our top six the entire year.
That's the problem. Not because there's no talent to play in the top6 but 'coaches decision' has become a meme. 'We need grinders in the top6' mentality is stuck in the past.

The game has changed. At 5v5, we are playing last century hockey. It's what's keeping us back.

From what I saw the past few games, I expect the kid line to get back to its Playoff performance.

However, I still dont understand breaking up Kreider Zibs Kakko after one game. Mind numbing.

How long until Panarin is back with Trocheck?

The KZK line was good, but if the kids line can get a decent amount of ice time, hopefully they find success. They really are the 2nd line, imo, but don't tell the opposing D that, lol.

It is the 2nd scoring line.... they will probably lead, or be close to leading, the team at 5v5 ice time.

He refuses to do something different because it doesn't meet his 'criteria' for defense and matchups. Worried more about theoretical matchups than actually scoring... yet we get neither.

Panarin Zibs Kakko
Kreider Chytil Kravtsov/Goodrow
Laffy Trocheck Goodrow/Kravtsov

but we need Zibs Kreider together for matchups and Trocheck needs to be with plugs because of matchups... Kidline is together so it's easier to bench them late game.

The entire mindset is playing not to lose... it's one of the many reasons why we suck at 5v5.

I see we had a few practices since last game...

did we practice the PP and see an abundance of shooting drills? I'm so excited to see the changes and improvements tonight

I like to see Chytil with Panarin. The kid is pacing over 50 points with little PP time, give him a shot with our most productive winger on the team. Chytil is gonna shoot the puck.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t realize that they were doing Vesey and Goodrow with Trocheck

I guess it’s less bad if you’re giving 2nd line minutes to the kids and that line is getting 3rd line mins

But we know Gallant is going to play that line like 20 mins lmao

I always hate agreeing with Brooks but his suggestion of Panarin-Chytil-Goodrow has merit. Chytil offers speed to stretch the ice surface and add a north-south dynamic where if lateral passes aren't getting you through the neutral zone, he can take it himself. It's something he's comfortable with.

Goodrow plays the stereotypical Jesper Fast/Blackwell role with the added help of taking the occasional key faceoff and, despite his metrics not being good, he's been an effective finisher here. Physicality and forechecking are an upgrade over Kravtsov.

Plus, you aren't really jamming up any spots. You spread the talent out over the other two lines K-Z-Kak and L-T-Krav and then have Vesey-Lesh-Gauthier rounding things out.

Kravtsov becomes my favorite to be replaced in his position at the deadline by a Vatrano type deal.

I don't get the impression at all that the Rangers aren't developing the young players skills. That's just something fans assume because they arent PPG gamebreakers like everyone incorrectly assumed that would be at this point. The organization has always been fine with taking the long view on forward development as long as I've been a fan. Granted they didn't have many, if any, top picks but they were patient on guys and were rewarded. Kreider was in Hartford and scratched frequently after his great playoff in 2012 and didnt become a mainstay until 2014. Zuccarello made his debut in 2010 and didn't become a regular until 2013. Buchnevich, JT Miller are other good examples of guys who took awhile to earn their regular spots, and even then werent done developing for a long time. If we never rebuilt, we'd still be employing these guys and the narrative wouldn't be that we "can't develop forwards". Gotta have some patience and not act like these guys are ruined beyond repair when they are 22 years old.

I'm not commenting on them as individuals.

In every waking second the Kid Line has spent together in the NHL, they have an xGF% of 47.7. The line f***ing sucks, just like Panarin-Zibanejad-Kreider, imo, is going to suck with three all-stars on it.

There a plenty of lines that include the kids that have been good.

They have no chemistry and don't produce good results together on either side of the puck.

The Rangers convincing us and themselves that this line is a thing is the biggest case of gaslighting since humans accepted dry toilet paper into the meta.

Sounds to me more like a coach problem than personnel

It's not that they're ruined beyond repair.

It's that we seem like the only team that has to wait for prospects of this caliber to pan out.

Like, yeah, the organization has always been fine with the long view on forward development and they're pretty f***ing mid at forward development.

I keep hearing "trust the process" and the process is C-.

mine too. the bridge fight scene is my favorite. because a toll is a toll. and a roll is a roll. and if we don't get no tolls, then we don't eat no rolls.

I like the dig at Kevin Costner because Prince of Thieves came out around the same time. "Because unlike other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent."
