Justin Holl has turned to complete shit again. Pretty well exact same story as last year, looks like a premier shutdown D first half of the year but regresses badly as the season goes on. The guy isn't anywhere near the un-tradeable piece a few posters here made him out to be.

Why does this team have such extreme difficulty winning a faceoff on special teams? Every time you look they’re losing the faceoff on the PP and the opposition ices it, or the lose it on the PK and sis boom bah it’s in our net.

Yeah - not scoring on the 5 on 3 was just crippling....

We are finding out what happens when you get average goaltending while having the worst special teams in the league. Not exactly a great combination for success. This is a team that should make it to the semis but there is a very real possibility we are going to be sunk by bad special teams.....again.

This team can never get all of its cylinders going at the same time. Something is always on fire.

They didn't actually. Campbell made two 10 bell saves on the first two shots that easily could have put them down 2-0 early. They're extremely lucky to come out of this dogshit period down only 3-1. They were outplayed top to bottom, inside and out.

The PP problem is starting to look like a core player problem. Happens every year (starts off on fire, gets figured out, then sucks into the playoffs). You won't win in the playoffs with such inconsistent special teams. It's all a very VERY legitimate reason for concern.

Somehow our point man on the PP can't get a shot on net and the defenders just play off Matthews and Marner isn't a legitimate shooting threat and the guys in front do two things: jack and shit, so if you cover Matthews you're good

Rittich has a confidence about him in net which is refreshing.
Some players (Holl, Muzxin, etc.) clearly gassed. They need to rotate those taxi squad guys in more.

The Leafs better hope Matthews doesn't catch Covid again or end up injured before the playoffs. They absolutely have no finishers and all their players want to pass their way into the net.

Because despite how well the team is doing anytime something bad happens you show up to say how awful they are. It’s predictable.

Best team we’ve seen in a while and you still can’t get onboard. You still need to be edgy and give everyone a reality check.

It’s funny when said “reality checks” come when the circumstances are being ignored too.

9-1-1 in their last 11 games and they’re missing their best player and an elite transition player... along with their deadline acquisitions sans Rittich. They need to fix their special teams before the playoffs, but these “reality checks” aren’t needed.
