Someday fans will realize they should pretty much feel the exact same emotions about heir team after a shootout loss as they would after a shootout win. The performance in the actual game is the same and yet if the kings had won the joke that is the shootout the mood here would be completely different.

Makes no sense.

Good performance last night, I fear no team in a playoff series.

The reason for a win or loss is always there before the game.

The Ducks don't have Getzlaf, so if they win, it's a great effort to step up by lesser players. If they lose, well, Getzlaf didn't play. The Kings play on back to back nights, so if they win, it's a great effort by a team to step up when tired. If they lose, well, back to back against NHL teams, with the 2nd game against the better team of the two, isn't easy.

The Kings couldn't stop a team without Getzlaf from scoring 3 goals. The Ducks couldn't stop a team that played the night before from coming back 3 times, even giving up a goal late in the 3rd period.

It all depends upon your perspective, and that perspective probably depends on the result.

In the end, it was a fun game, both teams came to play with whatever they had, and a playoff series between the two would be great.

Ah crap, Kings/Ducks is the new Pens/Flyers

Really though, if you looked at the first few min of the game, it was just as jittery and sloppy...yuck!

Really good point. Take the shootout away, and I feel really damn good about the team's game. Both teams should, really; ducks down their best center and us on a back-to-back with energy.

I'm firmly off the Ellerby wagon for now though, that guy just wilted last night.

It interesting to observe the swing in opinion here of the shootout after last year... It was a good game, not much to complain about from the Kings perspective other than the shaky start. A playoff series between these two teams would be great, let's hope we get to see it.

Was it last year? Or the previous year? One of them, Quick was unstoppable in the shootout...one of them, we were experts at getting to overtime but losing.

I remember having an argument with an avs fan whining about our OTLs when it became apparent we had been to overtime only 1-2 times more than everyone else...it just looked worse because we couldn't win a skills comp!

Hrm, guess it was 2 years ago where we had 10 SO wins. Looks like we only had 6 last year. I just remember everyone saying we were lucky and "there's no shootout in the playoffs" as a negative for us, now we're saying the same thing but as a positive.

was at the game, didn't really see this discussed on here but just wanted to know if the replays shows Corey Perry as offsides on that breakaway goal? It looked like he was crazy offsides from where i was.

Thought the linesmen were pretty terrible all evening long.

But yea, was a joy to watch the kings tonight play with so much determination and passion. Kings were tenacious in all aspects of puck retrieval and making great reads to take the puck away, ducks had a hell of a time getting out of their own zone. But give credit to them for capitalizing on their oppurtunities, but i'm in no way bummed that we didn't get the 2 points. We played awesome despite one of 2 or 3 sketchy bernier starts. For the most part bernier has been more than solid on his starts.

I love that you can argue for either kopitar or carter as our team MVP. Both are valuable to this team in different ways.. and both are our centers and both are producing as well getting all the subtleties right. I'd have to give the nod to carter at this point because he's had to carry an out of shape Richards and a revolving door on the other wing (clifford // penner // toffoli // richardson).

Um, Richards has been a big part of getting Carter all those goals. I know people always notice Carter cause he's the one who puts the puck in the net but Richards is the one who gets it to him through a lot through traffic. Carter would be the first to credit him. The two of them look best when they are playing together, to the point they sometimes outwork even needing another winger. Sutter has tried them on different lines only to put them back together halfway through the game.

Just think it's unfair to discredit Richards after how many times he's worked his ass off to get the puck to Carter for the shot. Not trying to take anything away from Carter, but the way he can get pucks to open men has always been pretty awesome even if they only count as assists.

Shootouts are sooooooooo lame. Not worth getting worked up over one way or the other.

I'm happy that next year the impact of the bonus point will be lessened somewhat as you'll only really need to care about teams in your division (who you are competing with for play off spots) getting bonus points as opposed to now where you have to be concerned with everybody in the conference.

Stupid gimmick. Not real hockey. No relevance on how good a team actually is.

Feel free to search my post history as you'll see that I've consistently said this even when we benefited with 10 shootout wins (quick was amazing at these back then)

Overrated? We're in second place and everyone keeps posting about how unsustainable we are. If anything, we're being underrated. You're butthurt is clear, and it is off the charts

Let's just say this, most Kings' fans are very comfortable with meeting the Ducks in the playoffs and hope that it happens.

if they do meet in the playoffs....Kings in 5 or 6 games. they will erupt for goals in one and their keeper will steal a game, but past that LA will smother them. it will be the same as the STL series last season.

i fear no team in the playoffs, least of all the sucks

This game basically sealed the division for teh Ducks. Would have been nice to win the division, but I'm not really that upset about it. The playoffs are what really matter, it just would have been nice to get a divisional banner as well.

We need to get three points from the two Sharks games IMO to get a really good hold on fourth place. Would like to see us do that. Overall it's been really refreshing to be this late in the season and not sweat it whether or not we're into the playoffs or not (not guaranteed in right now, but definately in the drivers seat).

And wtf is up with all the Ducks fans in this PGT? Of course we're going to talk up the Kings and belittle the Ducks. We just played the Ducks and we hate those ****ers. What did you expect, a ticker tape parade and cotton candy? If you can't handle a little smack talk at your team, stay on your own board.

Who knows....

Shouldn't be a problem what we say.

It's been my impression that the Duck posters, for the most part, really have an inferiority complex. Even though they won the Cup way back in 2007, all most of them can ***** about is Kings fans and referees. The league is out to get them you know. :shakehead

No way, that title goes to Canucks fans

It would have been nice to win this Pacific Division at least once.

You also faced our backup goalie, and you faced us without our best player (possibly the best player in the western conference this year). Just sayin'. You can make the excuse about Greene being banged up, but both teams have had injuries. Two of our best centers (Getzlaf and Bonino) were gone today. That put us at a significant disadvantage in both ends...still came away with the win.

Getzlaf sucks vs the Kings. Kopitar shuts him down every time. I think he has one goal in the past 15 games vs L.A.

LIRL at Bonino being some kind of savior for the Ducks.

L.A. was missing Mitchell and Greene, and I'd rather have those two than Bonino and Getzlaf in this matchup.

Eh we could use another division and Stanley cup banner at Honda :)

If you take record as indicative of a team's true ability, I don't think you're wrong. I certainly don't think the Ducks being 3rd in the league means they are a top-3 contender. I don't believe many Ducks fans actually believe that, either.

This sounds like you agree that they are lucky this season to have the record that they have.

Nope, that would be misinterpreting. Teams can play well and deserve the rank in the league they get to. But there can still be teams underperforming at that time of the season, that are not yet deserving of a better record to that point, but that can still be expected to live up to their higher talent level / potential going forward. Very different scenarios. I also think I made that a little clearer beyond the three sentences you quoted me on. :)
